WILKES-BARRE, PA (September 27, 2018) – The King's College men's soccer team will open up Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom play on Saturday afternoon when they host FDU-Florham at 1:30 p.m. in McCarthy Stadium.

Last Time Out: The Monarchs scored three goals in the first half to pick up their first road victory of the year after two draws with a 3-0 win at Centenary.
Sam Pipicelli got the scoring started in the 15th minute before
Ayrton Omoigui scored his first career goal in the 26th minute and
August Axtman converted a penalty kick in the 35th minute.
Zach Wolcott and
Quentin Szeker-Cortes recorded assists on the first two goals. King's out-shot the Cyclones 22-12 and
Owen Geedey made four saves to pick up his sixth shutout of the year.
The Book On The Monarchs (5-3-2, 0-0-0 MAC Freedom):
- King's enters conference play with the top-ranked defense in the MAC Freedom and one of the best in the nation. The Monarchs are 20th in Division III with a team goals against average of 0.47. Their shutout percentage of .600 is ranked 35th while their save percentage of .861 is 33rd. KC has given up a conference-best five goals while playing the most minutes.
- King's is outshooting their opponents 176-72 this year and have nearly put as many shots on goal as shots allowed with 69. KC is putting 39.2% of their shots on goal. The Monarchs defense is allowing just 7.2 shots per match. The team continues to lead the conference and are sixth in the nation with 7.80 corner kicks taken per match.
- Senior keeper Owen Geedey is having the best year of his already impressive career. The captain has been honored the past two weeks as the MAC Freedom Defensive Player of the Week. He is third in the nation with 961:42 minutes played and has six shutouts this season which is ranked fifth in the nation. He is currently the school record holder with 28 career shutouts. He is just two shutouts shy of his school record eight he recorded in 2016. His .861 save percentage is the third best in the conference and 45th in the nation while his 0.47 goals against average is up to 29th in the nation.
- Defender August Axtman continues to be one of King's top scorers as he converted another penalty kick for his team-leading third goal of the year on Wednesday. The junior now has scored six penalty kick goals in his career. Axtman is dangerous on set pieces while anchoring the Monarch defense. His two game-winning goals are the best in the MAC Freedom and 60th in the nation.
- Freshman Quentin Szeker-Cortes sits in a tie for fourth in the conference with his fourth assist of the year on Wednesday. The defender has recorded an assist in the past three matches, all on set pieces.
- Junior Aidan DeCamillo and sophomore Sam Pipicelli have score two goals each for the Monarchs this year. Pipicelli has scored in each of the last two matches. DeCamillo is second on the team with five points on his two goals and an assist.
- Five different Monarchs have scored one goal each. Seniors Steven Grebe and Zach Wolcott, juniors Fabio Massa and Ayrton Omoigui, and sophomore Liam McLoughlin have all found the back of the net this season. Junior Ryan Romeo and McLoughlin have also recorded one assist apiece on the year. McLoughlin leads the team and is fifth in the conference with 25 shots while Massa is tied for seventh with 21.
- The Monarchs own a 22-12-1 record against the Devils dating back to 1982. King's has been dominant in the series recently winning 14 of the 15 meetings including the past five. King's has won the past nine meetings in Wilkes-Barre including the 2013 Freedom Conference Championship where the Monarchs avenged a 3-2 regular season loss to the Devils.
The Book On The Devils (3-6-0, 0-0-0 MAC Freedom):
- FDU-Florham enters Saturday's conference opener with a 3-6 record following a big 7-1 victory over CCNY on Wednesday. The Devils nearly doubled their yearly goal total with seven against the Beavers.
- The Devils are 1-3 on the road this season and are playing away from Madison for the first time since September 12th. This is FDU-Florham's longest road trip of the season so far and only the second time they have left the state of New Jersey.
- Tom McLoughlin is in his 31st season as the head coach of the Devils and has led the team to the MAC Freedom Tournament in five of the past six years.
- Sophomore Justin Estremera leads the conference with 16 points on five goals and six assists. Not only does the forward lead the MAC Freedom in points, goals, and assists, he also leads in shots taken with 33. His six assists are ranked ninth in the nation. Estremera nearly doubled his point total with seven on two goals and three assists against the Beavers on Wednesday.
- Sophomore Brandon McGregor is second on the team with four goals and two assists after scoring twice and adding an assist on Wednesday against CCNY. Sophomore Ricky La Stella, senior Romeo Lopez, and freshman Salvatore Vassallo have scored two goals each for the Devils.
- FDU-Florham is being outscored 26-17 this season while being out-shot 176-129. They have taken 28 corner kicks and defended 54.
- The Devils have played five different people in goal. Freshman Tiernan Grey has seen the most action and is the most recent to be in net. Starting the past three matches Grey is 2-1 with a 1.37 GAA and a .840 save percentage in 263:16 minutes.
