CHESTER, PA (September 29, 2018) – King's College swept Ursinus College for the first match 25-23, 25-16 and 25-19.
Taylor Mueller played an integral part on defense with her 23 digs of the match while
Rachel Miller slammed 10 kills,
Becca Goldberg seven and
Wiatt Hoffmann contributed 13 assists. They now sit at 11-4 overall while the Ursinus Bears place 7-11.
The first set proved to be a battle between the teams as points were evenly exchanged. The Monarchs got the push they needed after Ursinus scored six unanswered points. Goldberg smashed a kill and then Miller and
Danielle Kitchner back-to-back. As the Bears put up a good fight, it was bundles of points by the Monarchs and errors by their own Miranda Foster that led to a Monarch win.
In the second the Monarchs played with confidence. The 25-19 score was a team effort as Kitchner, Miller, Goldberg
, Karissa Hartzell and
Christie Brown all recorded a termination. Hartzell and Miller both had a service ace while Kitchner and Brown put the breaks on the offense with killer blocks. King's was able to score relentless, unreturned points throughout the set, finishing on a four-point streak and a service ace by
Sydney Gonzalez for the win.
It was the dynamic duo that kicked off the first set, an assist by Hoffman followed with a kill by Miller and freshman
Cleo Shultz recorded a career-high four kills this set. Ursinus was able to keep up with the Monarchs until the team scored six unreciprocated points and hoisted the score to 15-10. From here the Bears were never able to break the stretch and ultimately fell to King's
The Monarch's return home to McGrane Gymnasium this Tuesday at 7:00 p.m. to face Delaware Valley University in a MAC Freedom match.
