CHESTER, PA (September 29, 2018) –The host Widener University returned to favor of a sweep to King's College outplaying the Monarchs 25-22, 25-17 and 25-22.
Becca Goldberg (7),
Rachel Galante (6) and
Christie Brown (6) led in kills for the Monarchs while
Taylor Mueller continued her defensive command with 17 digs and freshmen
Grace Frati, Wiatt Hoffmann and
Sarah Hayward all sank an ace in efforts to win. The Monarchs are 11-5 overall and 1-2 in conference play.
Both teams were hungry in the first set as points were exchanged and both teams came up on streaks of six points. Freshman
Karissa Hartzell recorded the first kill of her career and a career-high of two aces making her career-high points scored three against the Pride. Miller, Galante, Goldberg and Hayward also contributed to the eight kills sank by King's. A kill by Nicole Dorman solidified the win for the Pride.

Rachel Galante continued her domination this match scoring the Monarchs first point of the set. Wiatt Hoffman would deliver a kill herself while also setting up every other kill, one of them being
Olivia Musto. Sophomore
Alyssa Robinson would contribute seven digs against Widener that would give her a season-high. King's couldn't catch up and the Pride took another set.
In the final effort to keep the game going King's would sink 14 kills, the most out of any set this match. Almost every player on the court would deliver an execution. Brown came in hot scoring the first four points for the team keeping up with Widener. Hoffman continued her on-point assists all set while tallying another kill and a season-high two blocks. Two kills by Goldberg in a row, a service ace by
Shelby Motz and a Widener service error put King's in motion to tie the game. The game would tie up again for the next three points until Widener hit a four-point streak and eventually swept the match.
The Monarch's return home to McGrane Gymnasium this Tuesday at 7:00 p.m. to face Delaware Valley University in MAC Freedom play.
