WILKES-BARRE, PA (September 5, 2018) – The King's College women's soccer team scored three straight goals and fought off a late comeback attempt to pick up a 3-2 victory over Ramapo College on Wednesday night at McCarthy Stadium in Wilkes-Barre.
The Monarchs (1-1) came out strong and earned two corner kicks in the first few minutes of play.
Emma Baumbusch nearly gave the Monarchs the lead in the sixth minute on the first shot of the game when her attempt from distance caught the Roadrunner keeper off guard but ricocheted off the crossbar and out of play. Two minutes later
Stephanie Corea took a free kick well within her range but her shot just sailed wide left.
King's kept the pressure on the Ramapo defense earning two corner kicks in a span of a minute but were unable to get a shot off on either attempt. Ramapo (0-3) took advantage of a King's turnover in the midfield in the 20th minute and Lillann Vizcaino dribbled around a couple Monarch defenders and unleashed a shot from 25 yards out that found the bottom left corner of the net giving the Roadrunners an early advantage.
The Monarchs responded in the 28th minute when

King's kept the pressure on after the game-tying goal as
Kara Keim found open space for two shots in a minute span but her first shot was saved by Elizabeth Harvell in goal and her second shot sailed just high. The Monarchs had an opportunity to take the lead right before half but a shot from Sacknievich went just wide right of the net before the horn went off.
In the second half the Roadrunners had the first opportunity to score on their first corner kick of the day but a header by Skyler Rybacki went high. The Monarchs broke through in the 53rd minute to take a 2-1 lead when Baumbusch passed a beautiful thru ball up to Harrington who beat the goalkeeper from the right side of the box. Putnam gave the Monarchs a two-goal advantage with her first goal of the season in the 79th minute when Corea found her on a thru pass for a breakaway goal.
Ramapo cut the lead in half a few minutes later when Vizcaino found Skyler Rybacki streaking towards the back post on a corner kick from the left side. The Roadrunners kept pushing for the game-tying goal, but the Monarchs were able to not allow a single shot in the final seven minutes of play for the victory.
