WILKES-BARRE, PA (January 23, 2019) – The King's College women's ice hockey team will be back on home ice for the first time in 2019 with a pair of United Collegiate Hockey Conference (UCHC) games against Chatham University this weekend at Revolution Ice Centre in Pittston.

Last Time Out: Gracen Mahoney scored King's lone goal with 3:55 left in the third period as the Monarchs fell to top-ranked Elmira 12-1 last Friday night.
Maggie Gould and
Josée Aitken assisted on the power play goal following a faceoff win inside the blue line.
Emma Zeveney and
Kiva Sierra Stoltz combined for 77 saves in goal as the Soaring Eagles set a program record with 89 shots.
The Cougars also only played once last weekend falling to Neumann 3-0 on Friday night. Jackie Schneider scored all three goals in the third period to lead the visiting Knights to victory before Saturday's game got postponed because of the snow storm last weekend. Devon Strachan made 33 saves in net for Chatham.
The Book On The Monarchs (1-15-0, 0-11-0 UCHC, 0-4-0 MAC):
- King's will be on home ice for six of their final nine games of the season after being on the road for 11 of their last 13.
- The Monarchs, who have faced the top two teams in the UCHC the past couple of weeks, have a slightly easier schedule to close out their season. Their final four opponents have a combined .242 winning percentage.
- Sophomore captain Gracen Mahoney recorded the 11th point of her career with her fourth goal of the season on Friday. She has also tallied two assists for six points this season. Mahoney has been good in the faceoff circle this season leading the team with 208 wins and a .501 percentage.
- King's has been strong on the defensive end this seasoning blocking 292 shots. Morgan Almon has blocked a team-leading 46. Freshmen Meghan Mietlicki and Erin King have been good on defense for the Monarchs skating in every game. Mietlicki is second on the team wit 41 shots blocked while King is fourth with 21. Sophomore Kelly Tuffy adds 26 blocks.
- Sophomores Emma Zeveney and Kiva Sierra Stoltz have split time in net this season. Zeveney has made 339 saves in 10 games this season while recording a 7.40 GAA and a .869 save percentage. Stoltz has recorded a 7.07 GAA, a .863 save percentage, and saved a total of 389 shots in 13 games this season.
- Kellie Munro has also recorded five points this year for the Monarchs. The sophomore has two goals and three assists while Josée Aitken has tallied three assists. Sophomore Raeann Clancey scored the game-winning goal against Wilkes in the season-opener and had added two assists for three points.
- The Monarchs are averaging 11.0 penalty minutes per game. Opponents have scored 21 goals in 83 power play opportunities.
The Book On The Cougars (5-13-0, 2-9-0 UCHC):
- Chatham enters the weekend series looking to improve their road record this season. The Cougars have struggled on the road this year going 1-6-0 away from Frozen Pond Arena. The Cougars have also struggled on Friday nights with a 1-7-0 record. Their only Friday night victory was over Lebanon Valley back on November 2.
- CU has scored 29 goals this season while allowing 60. The Cougars are averaging 1.61 goals per game and have been shutout six times.
- The Cougars shut out the Monarchs in both meetings last year in Pittsburgh. The hosts won by scores on 9-0 and 4-0
- Sophomore defenseman Jillian Rowland tops the team with eight goals and two assists for 10 points. Rowland has scored in six different games this season including twice against Wilkes and Aurora. Half of her goals have been on the power play and one was scored short-handed.
- Five skaters have recorded seven points for CU this year led by Sydney Collins with four goals and three assists. Michelle Jones, Kerry Carr, and Kirajean Frost have tallied three goals and four assists each. Kristina Block, who had four goals and an assist against the Monarchs last year, has scored twice and a team-leading five assists.
- Devon Strachan is 3-7-0 in 12 games between the pipes with a 2.92 GAA and a .919 save percentage while making 328 saves. Katy Reed has recorded a 3.82 GAA and .883 save percentage in seven games.
- Chatham has struggled with penalties this year averaging 11.1 minutes per game which is fifth in Division III. The Cougars have successfully killed 85.2 percent of 81 power play opportunities and scored two short-handed goals. CU is 12th in combined special teams at 55.2 percent.
Up Next: King's will play their series finale against Elmira on Tuesday January 29 at 5 p.m. before they close out non-conference play next weekend when they host first-year program Anna Maria College for a pair of games at Revolution Ice Centre.
