REISTERTOWN, MD (January 25, 2019) – The King's College men's ice hockey team fell to host Stevenson University by a score of 7-0 on Friday night in a United Collegiate Hockey Conference (UCHC) and Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) contest from the Reisterstown Sportsplex in Reisterstown, MD.
The Mustangs (8-10-0, 5-6-0 UCHC, 2-3-0 MAC) picked up important points as they fight for the final postseason spot in the UCHC as the season winds down with two goals in the first, three in the second, and two more in the third. Four of Stevenson's seven goals came on the power play. The game was very physical as the teams combined for 32 penalties and 80 penalty minutes.
The Monarchs (1-18-0, 1-11-0 UCHC, 0-6-0 MAC) were called for a season-high 15 penalties which turned into 11 power play opportunities for the Mustangs. Stevenson had 17 penalties but were able to kill off all 10 of the KC power plays.
Seven different skaters scored a goal for SU and 11 different skaters recorded at least one point. Ryan Patrick had a goal and two assists while winning 12 of 13 faceoffs. Austin Swingle, Colin Woods, and Aaron Murray each scored a goal and recorded an assist for the hosts. Riley McVeigh made 12 saves in goal before being relieved by Dustin Moyer.
The Monarchs were led by
Tyler O'Mara with three shots on goal and nine faceoff wins.
Jack O'Neil,
Jamie Lukas, and
Nicholas Palumbo took two shots each.
Luciano Bucci won a team-best 11 faceoffs while
Cameron Anklewich won 10.
Jake Tugnutt made 38 saves in between the pipes for KC.
King's will now travel west where they will look to rebound tomorrow night with a 7:10 puck drop against Chatham University in Pittsburgh. The Monarchs are looking to avenge a 6-5 overtime loss to the Cougars in the first meeting this season.
