Prociak Posts Huge Double-Double In Women’s Hoops Win At Susquehanna

SELINSGROVE, PA (January 3, 2019) – Junior forward Rebecca Prociak helped the King's College women's basketball snap a three-game losing skid Thursday evening, posting a monster double-double of 21 points and 19 rebounds to lead the Monarchs to a 75-69 win over Susquehanna University in action from OW Houts Gymnasium.

Prociak posted her fourth game of the season with 20 or more points, going 8-of-14 from the floor, while her 19 rebounds were a career-high topping the 17 against Marywood University earlier this season on November 17, 2018. It was also the most rebounds in a game for a Monarch since Olivia Hoffman chalked up 20 back on January 4, 2015 against Keystone College.

The Monarchs (7-5) shot out of the gate on Thursday, shooting 50 percent in the opening quarter, leading for all but 34 seconds in the period. Senior Alexis Steeber got King's going with a triple right at the end of the first possession of the game, followed by back-to-back lay-ups by Prociak to make it a 7-0 game.

King's would end up leading up by eight at 3:25 of the quarter after a driving lay-up from Lindsey Dippre, finishing the quarter with an 18-12 edge. The visiting Monarchs continued to shoot the ball well from the floor in the second period, drilling 5-of-6 from deep while making 56 percent from the floor to extend their lead to 14 at 43-29 at the break. King's finished the half on a 15-2 run over the final 4:04 capped by four consecutive points from junior Mackenzie Yori.

After intermission, Susquehanna (3-8) battled back into the game thanks to tough shooting from the Monarchs. King's shot just 6.7 percent in the period, as a Prociak three-point play at 6:30 of the quarter was the Monarchs only made field goal of the quarter. After that play, the River Hawks went on a 10-1 spurt to pull to within one at 50-49 going into the fourth.

The hosts took their first lead of the game 22 seconds into the fourth quarter on a pair of freebies by Alanna Connolly, but King's regained its edge a minute later on a layup by freshman Samantha Rajza. The King's lead hovered around a two-possession game until 5:42 when SU's Olivia Brandt posted a tip-in to make the score 60-57 in favor of King's.

After a timeout by the Monarchs, King's went on a 9-2 run to regain a 10-point lead at 69-59 after a free throw from Prociak with a little over three minutes to play. King's was able to ice the game from the free throw line, earning its first win in the last four contests.

As a team, King's shot 39.1 percent (25-69) from the floor while nailing eight of its 15 shots from behind the arc (53.3 percent). The Monarchs also shot the ball well from the free line, taking advantage of 22 trips to the charity stripe by making 17. King's also rebounded after tough showing on the glass in their previous game against Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, outboarding Susquehanna 46-32. King's led for 38:20 of the contest and finished with a 14-4 edge in second-chance points.

Along with her point and rebounding totals, Prociak added four blocks, three steals and two assists. Steeber posted 15 points on 6-of-16 shooting, registering five rebounds and three helpers as well. The senior has now scored between 14 to 17 points in each of her last five games. Yori booked 14 points, six boards and three steals, and Dippre chalked up 10 points as well.

Susquehanna was led by a game-high 23 points from Erin McQuillen, and Nevin Hoenninger and Sadie Comfort posted 16 and 14 points, respectively.

King's returns to McGrane Gymnasium Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m. to take on Lycoming College in the first home game of the New Year for the women's basketball team.
