MADISON, NJ (October 26, 2019-- The King's College field hockey team traveled to Madison, NJ for a Mid Atlantic Conference Freedom (MAC Freedom) matchup against the Devils of FDU-Florham. The Monarchs fell to the Devils second half scoring push 4-0 at Robert Shields Field.
King's College had a strong defensive showing in the first quarter. The Monarchs guarded the net well against three penalty corners taken by FDU's Haleigh Flukey and only allowed one shot.
The Monarchs came out strong in the second quarter with a
Bailey Jordan penalty corner followed by a
Hannah Robbins shot, but the Monarch defense shined after that. The Monarchs successfully defended 5 penalty corners and 3 shots including a huge penalty stroke save by junior goalkeeper,
Brianne Maluda, before eventually falling to a penalty stroke shot by the Devils Marie Pietracatella.
The third quarter would be a decisive stanza for the Devils. FDU doubled the score in minute 41 with a goal by Lauren Nawrotzki off a pass from the corner from Sydney Moskal. The Devils offensive push continued as they fired 2 more shots before scoring in minute 43 off the stick of Flukey from a strong pass from Moskal as she tallies her second assist of the day. The Monarchs, Maluda kept the score 3-0 at the end of the quarter with a save off a shot by Peitracatella.
At minute 50 of the fourth quarter, the Devils struck again with a goal by Kendall Moore off the stick of Maggie Sohns. King's College led the fourth quarter with 4 penalty corners and 3 shots, but were unable to convert.
The Devils, now (15-2, 6-0 MAC Freedom) were able to hold off the Monarchs on a late fourth quarter push. The Monarchs, now (6-11, 2-4 MAC Freedom) recorded a strong defensive showing as they held off the Devils for 25 minutes and then again for another 16 minutes. Maluda recorded 8 saves as the Devils fired 17 shots, but the Monarchs were unable to find the back of the net on the other end.
The Monarchs are on the road Wednesday, October 30
th against Stevens in Hoboken, NJ as they look to avenge this afternoons loss.
