Monarchs Drop MAC Freedom Match Against Misericordia

WILKES-BARRE, PA (October 26, 2019) -- On senior day, the King's College women's soccer team dropped their final home match of the season to local MAC Freedom rival Misericordia University, 5-0.

The Cougars (9-4-2, 5-1-0 MAC Freedom) got on the board in the ninth minute when Jordyn Martini intercepted a Monarch pass and then dribble around the oncoming keeper before tapping the ball in for her fourth goal of the season. Colleen Kinsella made it 2-0 in the 41st minute when she knocked in a rebound off her shot that Erica Blackburn knocked away from net. Misericordia added three goals in the second half to set the final score.

The Monarchs (6-10-1, 1-5-0 MAC Freedom) played tough against the defending conference champions but were unable to find the back of the net. Emily Harrington had a great chance in the 21st minute as MU keeper Alexis Benedetto was needed to keep her attempt away from the goal. In the second half Kristina Keithley sent a shot in from the top of the box that Benedetto made a diving stop on to keep the Monarchs off the board.

Harrington led the offense with two shots, both on goal, in her final regular season home match for the Monarchs. Keithley also recorded two shots in the match with one on goal in the loss. Blackburn totaled eight saves in the net for the Monarchs.

The Monarchs are back in action next Saturday, November 2 at 5:00 pm as they travel to FDU-Florham for their final regular season match of the 2019 season.
