BETHLEHEM, PA (October 5, 2019) --- The King's College men's cross country team had another great meet as the squad ran fast times in the white race of the Paul Short Run hosted by Lehigh University on the Goodman Campus in Bethlehem on Saturday.
Daniel Michels led the Monarchs with a career best 8,000-meter time of 28:09.3 averaging 5:39.9 per mile. He ran nearly a full minute faster than his previous career best of 29:04.5 at the Paul Short Run last year.
Matt Schoch was King's next finisher and crushed his career best time as the junior broke 29 minutes for the first time in his career running 28:52.3. Schoch averaged 5:48.5 per mile in the race. His previous best time was 29:59.4 ran last year at Lehigh's Paul Short Run.
Mitch Forgash was not far behind Schoch as King's third finisher running 29:28.8 and averaging 5:55.8 per mile. The sophomore was not far off the time of 29:00.3 he ran in his first 8K a few weeks ago at Misericordia.
Kevin Wrobleski averaged 6:08.9 per mile to finish in 30:33.6 as the Monarchs' fourth finisher. Freshman
Kyle Mlodzienski rounded out the KC runners with a time of 31:40.8 while averaging 6:22.4 per mile in his first collegiate 8K.
Cabel McCandless of SUNY Cortland topped the field of 348 with a time of 25:28.7 while leading the Red Dragons to a second-place team finish. Wesleyan scored 104 points to defeat the Red Dragons who scored 124 points. Will Greene, a senior from Saint Vincent College, finished second overall with a time of 25:35.4. The Monarchs finished 34th of 43 scoring teams with 986 points and were fifth of seven Middle Atlantic Conference teams competing in the white race. Widener was seventh with 261 points, Misericordia was 13th with 368 points, Arcadia was 31st with 894 points, and Wilkes was 33rd with 945 points.
The Monarchs will have two weeks off before competing at another big invitational on Saturday October 19 when they travel to New Jersey to participate in the Inter-Regional Border Battle hosted by Rowan University. The 6K race will begin at 11:45 am from the Gloucester County Dream Park in Logan Township, NJ.
