POMONA, NJ (October 9, 2019) --- The Stockton University women's soccer team broke open a close match at halftime with three second half goals to defeat King's College 4-0 on Wednesday from G. Larry James Stadium in Pomona.
Stockton (11-1-1) put early pressure on the Monarchs (5-6-1) as Kiersten Reszkowski sent a shot in on goal from outside the box just 86 seconds into the match. The Ospreys got on the board in the sixth minute as Salena LeDonne found Brenna Clowney at the right post for an tap-in on a cross from the left side. King's had their first shot of the day a minute later as
Breanna Jacinto tried to find the lower left from just outside the box on the right side. SU keeper Olivia Harris was able to come up with the save to keep the one-goal advantage.
The Ospreys out shot the Monarchs 8-2 the rest of the half putting a total of six shots on goal in the first half. Freshman
Erica Blackburn made five saves in the first 45 minutes including a couple on shots that looked like they were heading for the back of the net. The Monarchs ended the half strong as Jacinto sent a pair of shots high in the closing minutes.
SU took advantage of their first corner kick of the second half to increase their lead to 2-0 in the 50th minute. Reszkowski took the corner finding LeDonne in the middle of the box for her sixth goal of the season. The junior forward would find the back of the net again seven minutes later as she tapped in a shot off the crossbar by Michelle Sander. Stockton scored their final goal of the match in the 62nd minute as Sydney Williams scored her team-leading eighth goal of the season from the top of the box following a back pass from LeDonne.
King's did not go away quietly as they fought hard to get on the scoreboard. Unfortunately, Harris stopped all three shots the Monarchs put on goal to pick up her second clean sheet of the year. Jacinto had another great effort in her home state leading the Monarchs with four shots including two on goal.
Sophia Sacknievich had two shots off the bench including one on goal.
Emily Harrington and
Grace Conover had a shot apiece for King's. Blackburn had another great effort in goal as the freshman once again equaled her season high of six saves.
Stockton held a 21-8 shot advantage and took eight corner kicks compared to just one for King's. LeDonne had a hand in all four goals for the Ospreys scoring twice and recording two assists.
King's closes out the non-conference portion of the schedule and now will have six big conference matches left starting on Saturday at Delaware Valley. The Monarchs and Aggies are scheduled to kickoff at 7 pm from James Work Memorial Stadium in the nightcap of a King's and Delaware Valley triple header.
