BRISTOL, RI (November 15, 2019) -- The King's College wrestling team traveled to the Roger Williams Invitational on Friday for the first of two days of action, and freshman Gus Petruske, sophomore
Kade Kravits and senior
Dakota Quick all moved into the championship bracket Round of 16.
At 125, the fifth-seed Petruske put on a clinical display in his first match of the day, as he started things off with a takedown and near fall in the first period. He would post four more takedowns and another near fall to roll to a technical fall win over Anthony Farrell of Bridgewater State. Petruske will take on Patrick Lockwood of New York University.
Quick moved into the 133 Round of 16 after earning a 12-0 win over Zachary Mandsager of New Hampshire, posting a pin at 4:11 after three near falls in the first period. The seventh-seed Quick will take on Dylan Kull of NYU Saturday.
After posting a bye in the first round, Kravits moved into the Round of 16 thanks to a quick pin of Nick Stehl of Norwich just 47 seconds into the match. Kravits will take on No. 1 seed Dempsey King of Rochester Institute of Technology. King is ranked No. 2 in the nation right now at 165 by IntermatWreste.com.
At 149, freshman
Colby Spencer fell early on in the first round to Marvin Cunningham of Johnson & Wales by fall. Spencer responded well though, earning a hard fought 7-6 decision win over Ricky Reimers of RWU. Spencer followed that up with a 14-5 win over Joseph Castellino of Norwich to move into the consolation bracket Round of 16.
Freshman
Liam Farrell dropped both of his matches on Friday evening at 125, falling 5-3 by decision to Julien Vivas of Rhode Island College. Farrell would also come up short against Ian Forgitano of BSU 16-8.
Freshmen Joey Davis, Will Grace and
David White are all also in the consolation Round of 16 Saturday.
Action restarts at 8 a.m. Saturday morning.
