BRISTOL, RI (November 16, 2019) -- Freshman
Gus Petruske IV won his final four bouts this weekend, leading the way for the King's wrestling team as the Monarchs competed at the 2019 Roger Williams Invitational in Bristol, RI. King's finished 12th of 17 teams competing.
Petruske needed just 40 seconds in his Round of 16 match to pin Patrick Lockwood of New York University, After dropping a 12-6 decision to fourth-seed Chris Caban of Johnson & Wales University, Petruske rallied to earn a 19-3 technical fall win over Frankie Darwak of Castleton.
The freshman would knock off Adam Quintanilla of JWU with a pin 4:21 into the match, followed by another pin in his next match just before the first period buzzer over Wilson Gomes of Bridgewater State in the consolation semifinals. In the consolation finals, Petruske was taken down by Christian Rivas of JWU but reversed position and would pin Rivas at 2:47 to take third place.
Senior
Dakota Quick started his day at 133 with a pin at 2:48 of the first period, setting up a match with No. 2 seed Hayden Brown of JWU. Unfortunately, Quick was injured during his win over Kull and was medically unable to continue.
Sophomore
Kade Kravits battled the No. 2 ranked 165 wrestler in the nation to start the day, losing by fall at 2:26, pushing Kravits into the consolation bracket. Once there, Kravits rolled to a 16-1 technical fall win over K'ell Roper of Johnson & Wales, followed by by a victory by pin at 2:29 in the next round over Steven Gazzillo.
In the consolation Round of 8, Kravits was leading Kade Loughney of NYU, but was taken down at 1:06 of the period and Loughney ended earning the pin to eliminate Kravits.
The Monarchs will travel to Alvernia University next Saturday, November 23 to take on both the Golden Wolves and Ursinus College at 5 p.m. in Reading, PA.
