ALLENTOWN, PA (November 19, 2019) -- The King's College men's basketball team inched within four points late in the second half, but the Mules of Muhlenberg College were able to use a 10-2 run to secure the win, 87-75. With the loss, the Monarchs drop to 3-2 on the season.
Muhlenberg opened the game with a 19-9 run over the course of the first seven minutes, draining their first three three-point attempts. The Mules lead swelled to 17 with, 40-23, with 3:40 remaining in the half before the Monarchs ended the first half on a 11-2 run behind freshman
Tyler Faux's nine points to post the halftime score, 42-34.
The Mules regained momentum out of the locker room as they started the half on a 11-4 run as the lead increased to 15 points, 53-38, with 15:58 left. Then King's held Muhlenberg scoreless over a span of 3:50 as they inched within four, 57-53, after a three-pointer by sophomore
Joey Lindsay and a three-point play by freshman
Bryan Henderson. The Mules responded with a 10-2 run to force a Monarch timeout with 8:33 left in the half. Muhlenberg would pull ahead and hold a double-digit lead for the remainder of the game. Muhlenberg rolled to a 21-point lead, 86-64, with 1:48 remaining before posting the final 87-75.
Faux continued his hot streak, leading the Monarchs offense with 14 points and adding five assists. Senior
Joe Lonardi recorded his first double-double of the season with a career-high 15 boards and 10 points and adding one block. Sophomore Pat Galvin came off the bench to total 10 points on 3-of-4 shooting, junior
Brad Kalinowski added 10 in his first career-start connecting for 5-of-11 for the game, and Henderson came off the bench to total eight points on 3-of-5 shooting with three assists. To round out the top Monarch performers was freshman
Sean Murphy who totaled a career-high seven assists while adding six points off the bench.
As a team, King's shot 36.8 percent for the game on 25-of-68 shooting. They connected for 10 three-pointers, shooting 40 percent from beyond the arc. The Monarchs pulled down 34 boards, dished out a game-high 20 assists, and totaled four steals. In addition, the King's bench out-scored the Muhlenberg bench, 40-28, as well as posting more points off of turnovers, 15-11, than the Mules.
After a few days off, the Monarchs will be back in action on Saturday afternoon at 1:00 p.m. as they return home to McGrane Gymnasium to face the Blue Jays of Elizabethtown College. King's has a quick turn around as they travel to Clarks Summit University on Monday night at 7:00 p.m.
