Johnson got King's off to a great start with the first goal of the game just 66 seconds after stealing the puck from the Mustangs. The Monarchs held the lead for 15 minutes before Stevenson found the back of the net in the 17th minute on a goal from Houston Wilson. The hosts took the lead midway through the second period as Aaron Murray lit the lamp for a power play goal. SU increased their lead to 3-1 midway through the third period on a goal by Chad Watt.

Brandon Daigle was excellent in between the pipes stopping 35 of the 38 shots he saw. The sophomore made 15 saves in the first, 13 in the second, and then seven more in the third period. Johnson scored on the only shot he took all game while winning seven of 13 faceoff attempts. Tommy Cahill took five shots and won seven of 18 faceoffs while Cameron Anklewich won 10 of 33 faceoffs.

The Mustangs had four skaters with four shots each while winning 44 of the 71 faceoffs. Dylan Schoen made 10 saves in goal to pick up the win. Stevenson scored one power play goal on four opportunities while holding the Monarchs to none on five power play chances.
