Amelio Tallies First Career Goal In Close Loss To Bryn Athyn

PITTSTON, PA (November 23, 2019) --- Sophomore Matt Amelio found the back of the net in his first game of the year but a power play goal and an empty net goal in the third period gave the visiting Bryn Athyn College men's ice hockey team a 3-1 victory over King's on Saturday evening from the Revolution Ice Centre in Pittston.

For the second straight night the Monarchs (1-5-0) gave the fans an exciting game to watch with another strong performance on the ice. KC outshot BAC (3-2-1) 31-30 which marks the first time this season King's has taken more shots than their opponent. Tyler Sayger had an excellent game in his second appearance of the year making 27 saves while the defense blocked 17 shots.

Tanner Schroeder gave the Lions a first period lead with a goal at the 4:40 mark of the period. Sayger had made the initial save on the shot but the puck took an unlucky bounce off his pads and over the line for a goal. The game remained 1-0 in favor of the visitors until 5:41 of the third period when Amelio snuck a shot inside the left post off a nice pass by Tommy Cahill. The assist was Cahill's second of the year. Bryn Athyn retook the lead a couple minutes later as Devon Becker sent a slapshot from the point through a crowd and into the back of the net for a power play goal.

King's pressed for the game-tying goal but were unable to get anything pass BAC freshman Gabriel Couture who was making his first collegiate appearance. The Lions tallied their final goal with a minute to go as KC pulled their goalie for an extra attacked. Zach Pamaylaon scored his second goal of the season as he sent the puck into the empty net.

Cahill led the Monarchs with seven shots while Keaton Caplis took five. Tommy Green blocked a team-high four shots including two hard rippers with King's killing off a BAC power play early in the third period.

Pamaylaon led the Lions with three points on one goal and two assists while Schroeder finished with one goal and an assist. Couture made 30 saves to earn his first victory.

The game had 20 total penalties called with BAC recording 11 of them including seven in a penalty-filled second period. Six of King's nine penalties were also called in the second period. The Lions were 1-for-4 on the power play while KC was 0-for-6.

The Monarchs will now have two weeks off before finishing up the first semester with a pair of home games against Neumann and Manhattanville on December 6 and 7. King's will welcome the Knights of NU to Revolution on Friday night at 7 before playing the Valiants on Saturday at 4 pm.
