PITTSTON, PA (December 6, 2019) --- Junior
Isaac Cirinna scored his seventh career goal on Friday evening as the King's College men's ice hockey team dropped a 6-1 decision to visiting Neumann University in a United Collegiate Hockey Conference (UCHC) game from Revolution Ice Centre in Pittston.
After two early goals by the Knights (3-6-0, 3-4-0 UCHC), Cirinna cut the lead in half with his first goal of the season on the power play. The Monarchs (1-6-0, 1-5-0 UCHC) had a 5x3 advantage for a minute after two NU penalties. The Knights were able to kill off the first penalty, but KC struck late in the second penalty off assists by
Tommy Cahill and
Jack O'Neil. Neumann responded with two goals in the final four minutes of the period to take a 4-1 lead into the first intermission.
The Knights added a power play goal in the second and third periods to set the final score. The Monarchs played the Knights tough but struggled to get the puck past Kyle Pantelone in goal. The sophomore made 39 saves including 20 in the second period. KC recorded their highest shot total of the season with 40 as Cahill took a team-high six. O'Neil,
Cameron Anklewich, and
Tommy Green each had four shots while
Liam Johnson and Cahill won 11 faceoffs each.
Tyler Sayger made a season high 45 saves while facing 51 shots.
The Knights were led by Chris Caldwell who scored the game-winning goal and assisted on the first goal of the game. Evan Hoey scored both power play goals while Zac Boyle had two assists. Glenn Florczak and Barry Kneedler had a goal and an assist each. Tommy Dougherty and Dionne Demke had strong games in the faceoff circle with Dougherty winning 13 of 20 attempts and Demke winning 11 of 18 attempts.
King's was called for nine penalties with Neumann going 2-for-8 on the power play. NU had eighth penalties in the game with King's scoring on one of their seven power play chances.
The Monarchs will return to the ice tomorrow afternoon hosting Manhattanville College at 4 pm in their final contest of the first semester.
