Monarchs Cruise to Home Opener as Four Score in Double-Digits

WILKES-BARRE, PA (November 8, 2019) -- The King's College women's basketball team cruised to a 83-39 victory in their home opener Friday night over Wesley College. The Monarchs claimed their first win of the 2019 season as they improved to 1-0.

The Monarchs ran out of the gate tonight as they dominated the first quarter outscoring the Wolverines 24-0. Wesley started the second quarter with five straight points on a three-pointer and layup from Angelique Gathers. King's continued to build their lead, out-scoring Wesley 23-13 in the second quarter to take a commanding 47-13 halftime lead.

The second half was no different as the Monarchs scored the first four points on pairs of free throws from senior Rebecca Prociak and sophomore Sam Rajza. Their defense continued to stifle the Wolverines as King's never led by less than 30 points the rest of the way before posting the final, 83-39.

Prociak led the Monarchs as she filled the box score with a team-high 19 points, sinking 13-of-18 from the free throw line, and adding nine rebounds, seven assists, four steals, and two blocks. Sophomore Emily Kriston was stellar in her first career start, totaling a career-high 17 points on six-of-nine shooting  with four steals. Other top performers for the Monarchs were senior Mackenzie Yori and Rajza, as Yori recorded 17 points and Rajza added 12 with six rebounds.

Sophomore Zoe Stein was great off the bench as she scored a career-high nine points on four-of-five shooting on the night.

As a team, the Monarchs shot 50.9 percent from the field for the game, grabbing 33 rebounds, dishing out 19 assists, and recording 18 steals. They held the advantage in points off turnovers (40-7), fast break points (30-0), points in the paint (26-14), and points off the bench (18-6).
