Yori's Hot Shooting Leads Monarchs to Road Win at Elizabethtown

ELIZABETHTOWN, PA (December 4, 2019) -- The King's College women's basketball team returned from their break to claim a big road win, 80-76, at Elizabethtown College Wednesday evening. The Monarchs recorded their second straight win as they improve to 4-2 for the season.

The Monarchs trailed early, as the Blue Jays led by as much as five points, 11-6, with 5:23 left in the first. Then King's scored the next two baskets off layup by sophomore Emily Kriston and a three by senior Mackenzie Yori tied the game, 11-11, at the 3:34 mark. The Monarchs took over to take the lead after one, 19-18. The second quarter started in a back-and-forth battle with neither team leading by more than three points, but back-to-back three's by Yori with 5:01 left in the half gave the Monarchs the lead, 29-26, as they built their lead to as much as nine before posting the halftime score, 39-32.

The momentum stayed in favor of King's to start the second half as they their lead swelled to as much as 12 off a jumper by freshman Emily Morano, 53-41, with 5:13  to go in the third. King's continued to lead, but Elizabethtown was able to pull within single digits, trailing by eight after three, 60-52.

The fourth quarter saw the Monarchs reach their biggest lead of the game at 16, 70-54, on a Kriston jumper with 7:26 remaining in the game. Then, the Blue Jays used a 16-2 run over the next 5:27 to inch within two, 72-70, with 1:59 to go. Then another three by Yori broke the Monarch drought to push the lead to five, 75-70, with 1:37 left. To change the momentum,sophomore Samantha Rajza stepped in to take a charge on the driving Blue Jays player with 49 seconds to go. Elizabethtown was forced to foul and put Rajza on the line as she connected on 4-of-6 and Kriston added one of her own to seal the win and outlast two late three's by the Blue Jays, posting the final, 80-76.

Yori led the Monarchs offense, totaling 34 points on 11-21 shooting including 7-12 from beyond the arc. Her 34 points is the second highest single-game total in King's women's basketball history. The guard also added six rebounds and four assists in a complete 40-minute game. She is now just six points shy of 1,000 for her career.

Senior Rebecca Prociak got it done on both ends of the floor, recording her third double-double of the season with 20 points and 17 boards with three blocks. Kriston came up just shy of her own double-double, with 14 points, nine boards, and five assists. Rajza was the other lone Monarch in double-digits with 10 points and adding five assists and a team-high two steals.

King's shot 42.0 percent from the floor for the game on 29-69 shooting. In addition, they shot an impressive 9-21 from three for 42.9 percent. The Monarchs also dished out 21 assists on their 29 field goals with five blocks and four steals.

The Monarchs are back in action as they travel to Elmira College on Saturday with tip off set for 2:00 p.m. They will then take a break as they complete their semester and will return to the court for a road match with Albright College on Thursday, December 19.
