ELMIRA, NY (December 7, 2019) -- Senior
Mackenzie Yori scored the 1,000th point of her career with 3:32 to go in the third quarter as the King's College women's basketball team defeated Elmira College, 77-58. With the win, the Monarchs improve to 5-2 on the season entering the finals week break.
King's trailed early due to a slow start as Elmira led by eight points, 19-11, with 2:11 left in the quarter before a layup by senior
Sara Wolbert with 1:42 left brought the Monarchs within six, 19-13, after one quarter of play. A layup by freshman
Emily Morano with 1:00 remaining gave King's their first lead as they used a 24-17 quarter to take a one-point lead, 37-36, at halftime.
The momentum stayed with King's throughout the second half, as they outscored Elmira 40-22 in the half. The Soaring Eagles were able to pull within one, 41-40, on a layup by Alyssa Waters with 5:46 left in the third, before the Monarchs were able to maintain a double-digit lead, 58-48, to end the quarter. King's was able to maintain a double-digit lead for the remainder of the game, leading by as much 21 off a three by sophomore
Samantha Rajza with 2:25 left before posting the final, 77-58.

Rebecca Prociak led the offense, combining for 48 points. Rajza totaled 25 points on 9-of-17 shooting while adding five assists, three steals, and three boards. Prociak recorded her fourth double-double of the season, adding 23 points shooting 9-of-18 from the field, with 12 boards and two blocks.
Yori totaled nine-points in her milestone night with four assists, and sophomore
Emily Kriston recorded a team-high seven assists and six rebounds. Coming off the bench for a big game, just shy of a double-double was Morano with 11 points and career highs in rebounds with eight and steals with five.
Despite a poor shooting night from beyond the arc, King's shot 40.8 percent from the field on 29-of-71 shooting. As a team, the Monarchs controlled the boards, pulling down 42 team rebounds compared to the Soaring Eagles 39. They also dished out 22 assists on 29 field goals, and forced 22 turnovers totaling 14 steals while committing just eight turnovers in the win. Looking into the box score, King's held the advantage in points off turnovers (17-4), bench points (15-7), points in the paint (44-34), and fast break points (20-8).
The Monarchs are off for the next week while they finish their semester with finals week. They will be back in action on Thursday, December 19 as they travel to Albright College for a 2:00 p.m. start.
