GRANTHAM, PA (December 7, 2019) -- The King's College wrestling team sent a short-handed squad to the 2019 Messiah Petrofes Invitational this weekend, but saw some strong performances especially in the heavier weights.
Sophomore
Kade Kravits continued his solid sophomore campaign, as the hard worker posted four wins at 165 to advance to the quarterfinals of the consolation bracket. After falling to Zach Mackall of Waynesburg in the first round by fall, Kravits reeled off four straight wins in the consolation bracket.
In the first round of the consolation ladder, Kravits earned a quick pin at 1:08 of the first round over Ron Schilpp of Penn State Mt. Alto. He followed that with another win by fall, pinning Matt Mangus of Southern Virginia early in the third round at 6:14. After picking up an win by injury default over Jason Penton of Penn College, Kravits earned another pin just 1:04 into the match over Brian Jamison of Muhlenberg College.
Saturday, Kravits' continued his trek through the consolation bracket, falling in the quarterfinals of the consolation bracket 5-1. In the 7th place match, Marc Larson of Gettysburg College edged
Kade Kravits 7-6.
Sophomore Issac Mensah also had a strong night Friday at 184, as he started the afternoon with a 5-2 decision win over Jacob Thomas of West Virginia Tech. After dropping a narrow 3-1 decision to Ryan Errico of Springfield, Mensah responded with a pin 4:14 into the bout against Brady Mitchell of Wilkes University. The sophomore also earned a medical forfeit win over Joel Kanagy of Greensboro before falling in round 4 of the consolation bracket to David Galasso of Penn College, 12-4.
Freshman
Billy Grace earned his first win of the day in round one of the championship round with a 14-4 major decision win over Mitchell of WIlkes at 184. Ali Capobianco of Alvernia topped Grace by fall 4:50 into the match in round 2, and then Thomas defeated Grace 11-6 by decision.
The Monarchs will finish action for the first semester December 16, traveling to the Lycoming Duals in Williamsport, PA.
