Men's and Women's Swim Meet Notes - Wilkes University

WILKES-BARRE, PA (February 1, 2019) – King's College swimming celebrates their senior class this weekend while battling Wilkes University in their last Middle Atlantic Conference meet before preparing to swim at the MAC Swimming Championships in two weeks.

Last Time Out:  King's College faced Misericordia University in an electrifying Middle Atlantic Conference dual. The Monarch men topped the Cougars 145-113 while the women lost their lead but finished with a close 137-120. The men are now 7-3, 4-1 while the women post up a 4-6, 2-3 record.
 
The Book on the Monarchs:
  • King's and Wilkes last saw each other at the Diamond City Invitational where the Monarch men finished first and women second compared to Wilkes men ended up second and the women seventh out of nine teams.
  • Last season, both King's men (130-68) and women (155-37) beat the Colonels in a MAC Freedom meet.
  • Versus Misericordia senior Bryce Groshardt ended the meet with two first place finishes and one third earning a total of 21 points for King's and putting him at the No. 2 swimmer of the day.
  • Groshardt's 100 freestyle was the number three top swim of the day with a time of 48.46 while the 200-medley relay team earned the number one swim of the meet at 1:38.54.
  • Kaelyn Gardner finished as the number two women's swimmer for the overall meet with two first place touches and 20 points.
  • The women's 200 medley relay team contributed the number three swim of the dual with a 1:52.72 time.

The Book on the Colonels:
  • After facing Marywood University the Colonel men are 7-2, 4-1 and the women 2-7,1-4.
  • Jared Byrne and Trey Harloff finished as number two and three swimmers of the meet for Wilkes. Byrne had two first place ends and one second for 22 points while Harloff hit two first place finishes and 18 points.
  • Wilkes men also took four out of the five top swims of their meet portion.
  • Byrne took second with his take in the 1000 freestyle (10:39.00) and Harloff third for the 100 freestyle (50.72). The 200-medley relay team was ranked four with a time of 1:43.66 and Nick Martino rounded out the top swims with his performance in the 100 freestyle at 51.01.
Up Next: The Monarchs will swim at the MAC Championships in York, Pa. from February 14 to 17. Sessions begin at 5:45 p.m. on Thursday, February 14.
