Matt Sparks is the only Monarch to make it into tomorrow's finals for a take at third place in the 149-weight bracket.
At 125,
Dakota Quick won his first bout by fall at 4:23 against Michael Duncan of Thiel. The pin came after a tumultuous match that led to a challenge by King's over a takedown. King's won the challenge as Quick responded with a takedown of his own putting him in prime position for the victory. The junior lost his next in a 9-0 major decision versus York's Dylan Nuttall, pushing him into the consolation brackets. After a hard fought battle Quick ended his run in the tournament following a loss to Dylan Williams of Waynesburg by a 12-8 decision.
At 141, senior
Tony Immediato fell in his first match by tech fall half way through the second period to Zach Bylykbashi of Washington & Lee. Immediato was able to clinch an 11-8 decision against Penn Tech's Link before getting caught in a pin in his last match of the tournament versus Brandon Woody of Averett.
At 149, Sparks came through his first bout with a win by a 10-6 decision with two takedowns and an escape on Penn Tech's Jesse Walker. The senior fell in a tech fall in the first period of his match against Stephen Maloney of Messiah and headed to the consolation bracket. Sparks faced Joe Paul from Johns Hopkins and pulled out a victory by a 7-3 decision. He advanced to tomorrow's action.
At 157, freshman
Kade Kravits competed in his first regionals. It was a rough start for the rookie, dropping in a 15-1 major decision against Ryan Luth of Washington & Lee. In a comeback, Kravits stuck a pin on York's Fleming at 3:00 before falling in his final match 9-6 to Waynesburg's Zach Mackall.
At 165, freshman
Nick Palazzolo put up a valiant run today getting his fourth pin of the season versus William Merritt of Averett at 1:48. Roles were reversed in Palazzolo's second bout as he got pinned by Dan Bergeron of Penn Tech at 4:01. In his final run Palazzolo got caught in an arm bar by Tolbert of Ferrum.
At 184,
Isaac Mensah went 0-2 at his first appearance at regionals. He battled Victor DeFrance of Messiah in his first match where he was pinned and advanced to his next match versus Austin Cominsky of Wilkes. Mensah lost in an 11-1 major decision.
At 197,
J.J. Hooper also competed at regionals for the first time where he dropped both duals. In his first match versus Jared Mooney of Penn Tech, Hooper was pinned at 1:28. He then moved on to Delaware Valley's Steve Horvath where he got pinned again at 6:35.
The Monarchs stay in Wiliamsport for day two of the tournament where Sparks will compete for King's. Wrestling starts at 10:00 a.m. with semifinals and consolation quarters.
