Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

King’s Women’s Lacrosse Falls at Drew, 19-7

MADISON, NJ (February 23, 2019) – Host Drew University opened up the Saturday afternoon's game with nine of the first 11 goals, knocking off the King's College women's lacrosse team 19-7 in non-conference action from Ranger Park.

The Monarchs (1-1), playing in their first road game of the season with a very young team, had trouble stopping Drew University (1-0) in the opening half. The Rangers scored the first two goals before freshman Natasha Koslop tallied with help from sophomore Mary Kate Klodarska to make the score 2-1.

Kendall Hartt and Allie DiDario each scored their first goals of the season for the host Rangers before Klodarska answered with her sixth goal of the year and only of the day on a free position shot with 21:22 to go in the first half. Drew responded with five unassisted tallies including two each from Lauren Cassella and DiDario to make it 9-2.

The Monarchs got one back on a nice passing play, as freshman Emily Sims set up Koslop for her second of the game. Drew wouldn't let up though, scoring three more before King's freshman Jen O'Connor tallied off a turnover to send the game to halftime with Drew up 12-4.

After the break, Drew tallied the first three goals of the period, but King's scored two of the next three to make it 16-6. That was as close as the Monarchs would get, dropping their first game of the season. Koslop established a new career-high for goals in a game, posting three Saturday after scoring twice Thursday evening.

O'Connor finished with two goals, three ground balls, two caused turnovers and a team-best five draw controls. Klodarska had a team-best two assists in addition to her goal, and Sims finished with a goal, assist and three ground balls. Defenders Jennifer Smalley, Mia Dardanelli and Kelly Pierce each had one caused turnovers, and sophomore goalkeeper Orla Cottell recorded 10 saves and four ground balls.

Cassella had a game-high eight points on five goals and three assists, and DiDario chalked up three goals and 12 draw controls as well for the Rangers. DU held a 37-12 edge in shots Saturday, while also posting a 20-7 lead in draw controls.

The Monarchs will be right back in action two days from now, traveling to Marywood University for a 5 p.m. start up in Scranton, PA.
