King's Wins Second Straight Road Game With 4-1 Victory Over Keystone

LA PLUME, PA (September 26, 2019) -- The King's College field hockey team picked up its second straight road victory Monday evening, finishing a busy five game in nine day stretch with a 4-1 win over Keystone College in non-conference action from the Keystone Turf Field Complex.

The Monarchs got on the board early on in the contest thanks to a great hustle play by sophomore Bailey Jordan, who chased down a through ball at the end line just before it went out of bounds. Right before the ball crossed the line, Jordan sent a cross into the goal mouth, where it was deflected into the cage by junior Danielle Runo for her first goal of the season.

For Runo, it was her first collegiate score while the assist was Jordan's first of the campaign. King's would hold the lead through the end of the first quarter, but Keystone evened the score at 19:54 of the game on a Shannon Green goal, assisted by Savanna Robinson.

King's would regain the upper hand just over three minutes later, as Lexi Prowker stopped a Giant attack at midfield. She would fire a ball into the circle, and a deflection that appeared to be going in was played illegally by a defender on its way into the goal to force the official to whistle a penalty stroke.

Junior Lauren Rowski stepped up to the spot and her shot to the top left corner of the cage was tipped by the keeper but still found the back of the net to put King's up 2-1 going into halftime.

Right out of the halftime intermission, King's wasted no time doubling its lead to 3-1 only 35 seconds into the third quarter. On the play, Runo tipped a centering pass past a charging goalkeeper and junior Jolee Treslar pushed the ball into an empty net for her goal of the year.

The visitors would control play against Keystone in the third quarter, taking all four shots of the frame. In the fourth, the Monarchs played responsibly in the midfield, hemming in the Giants while allowing no shots in the fourth quarter.

King's would put a bow on the contest with its fourth score of the game, as freshman Jessie Smalley tipped in a perfectly played penalty corner off of help from Treslar and Jordan to clinch the win.

The Monarchs outshot their hosts 17-3 on the game, including a 14-2 shots on goal tally. King's also earned six of the contest's eight penalty corners. Junior Brianne Maluda made one save in the victory, while Megan Novak stopped nine shots in goal for the Giants. Daphne Leenas also posted a defensive save for Keystone.

King's will have a well-earned few days off before returning to action Saturday afternoon on the road, taking on Immaculata University at 4 p.m. in Immaculata, PA in Draper Walsh Stadium.
