MALVERN, PA (September 21, 2019) -- Junior
Danielle Runo recorded a hat trick, the first of her career, to lead the King's College field hockey to their third straight win, 5-1, at Immaculata University.
The Monarchs struck first in the game as Runo started the night with a goal off an assist by fellow-junior Jolee Tresslar with 3:23 left in the first period. She then quickly followed up early in the second period with her second goal off a rebound of her first, making the score 2-0 with 12:08 remaining in the half.
Immaculata responded with their lone goal of the game with 8:36 left off a penalty corner by Maddy Edwards. King's answered as freshman
Sara Whitesell recorded her second goal of the season off an assist by Runo to head into the locker room leading the host Mighty Macs, 3-1.
The third period saw both teams go scoreless before King's scored an early goal just 45 seconds into the final period off a penalty corner by sophomore
Bailey Jordan, her second of the season. Finally, Runo made her final mark on the game as she scored her third goal to record the hat trick the same way she scored her first, off an assist by Tresslar, to post the final, 5-1.
Runo led the offense, scoring three goals off of five shots on goal and adding an assist. To round out the offensive leaders was Jordan with one goal on two shots and Tresslar with two assists for the game. Junior goalkeeper
Brianne Maluda was excellent in goal, posting a shutout and recording four saves in the win.
As a team, the Monarchs had more shots (15-11) than the host Mighty Macs, but lost the edge in penalty corners (11-6) and saves (6-4).
The Monarchs are back in action on Tuesday, September 24 at 7:00 pm as they host Keuka College in McCarthy Stadium. They open conference play at home on homecoming Saturday, September 28, as they host newcomer Stevens Institute of Technology, starting at 5:00 pm.
