HACKETTSTOWN, NJ (September 18, 2019) ---
Breanna Jacinto had her career best match with three goals to lead the King's College women's soccer team to a 5-0 victory over Centenary University on Wednesday afternoon from the J.E. Reeves Jr. Turf Field in Hackettstown, NJ.
The three goals in a match is the first for a Monarch since
Danielle Putnam scored KC's first three goals in a 9-0 victory over Clarks Summit in 2017. She also becomes just the 13th person in program history to score three goals in a match.
The Monarchs (3-3-0) took control of the match from the beginning as
Abby Castle took the first shot in the fourth minute. Her attempt to the lower right was saved by Cyclone keeper Chelsea Estacio. Centenary (0-5-1) put their first shot on goal in the fifth minute as
Erica Blackburn made easy work on a shot by Stephanie Williams to the lower right. King's was able to get on the board in the 18th minute with Jacinto's first goal of the match as she found the lower right off a nice cross from
Emily Harrington. 90 seconds later Jacinto nearly had her second goal when she went upper right on a free kick, but Estacio was able to keep the ball out of the back of the net.
Kara Keim tested Estacio with a shot to the upper right a couple minutes later but once again the Cyclone keeper was able to make the save.
Harrington increased the KC lead to 2-0 in the 32nd minute with her second goal of the year finding the lower right off.
Grace Conover recorded her first collegiate point with an assist on the goal. Jacinto pressed the Cyclone defense looking for her second goal of the match as Estacio needed to make a save on a shot to the center of the net in the 34th and 37th minutes while Jacinto put a shot high and right in the 36th minute. Jacinto was finally able to break through for her second goal of the match right at the 41-minute mark with a shot to the lower right. Another freshman,
Kristen Dobkowski, recorded her first collegiate point with an assist on the play.
In the second half it didn't take long for Jacinto to get her hat trick as she made it 4-0 just 1:05 into the half finding the upper right off an assist by Harrington. The Monarchs were not done scoring though as
Bekah Araujo scored her second goal of the year in the 50th minute. Araujo found the upper right of the net off an assist by
Casey Genovese. The assist for Genovese was the first of her career. King's kept the pressure on the Cyclones with Estacio needing to make saves on shots from
Kristina Keithley at the 73-minute mark and on a shot by Araujo in the 80th minute.
King's held a commanding 23-6 shot advantage including 15-4 on goal. The Monarchs also took the only corner kick of the match.
Erica Blackburn made four saves in net to pick up her first collegiate shutout. Estacio finished with 10 saves for Centenary.
Jacinto, who was playing nearly an hour away from her hometown of Old Bridge, took eight shots putting six on goal. Prior to today, the junior had scored just one goal in her career while dishing out five assists including three this season.
Natalie Poulton took four shots putting two on goal while Harrington finished a goal and two assists on three shots.
King's will return to the pitch on Saturday when they host Lebanon Valley College for a 1 pm kickoff at McCarthy Stadium.
