WILKES-BARRE, PA (September 24, 2019) -- In their home Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom (MAC Freedom) opener, the King's College women's volleyball team were handed their first loss, 3-0, by newcomer Stevens Institute of Technology to fall to 1-1 in conference action and 11-2 overall.
The Monarchs started the match strong, scoring the first point on a service ace by sophomore
Wiatt Hoffmann. Stevens responded with a 7-1 run before the Monarchs battled to pull within two, 18-16, before the Ducks closed the set on a 7-3 run to post the final, 25-19. The second set saw King's take the first point again on a kill by sophomore
Becca Goldberg before Stevens jumped to a 7-3 lead that the Monarchs could not overcome. Set three saw three ties and two lead changes before the Ducks took over and took control, posting the set final, 25-16.
Goldberg led the offense as the lone Monarch to post double-digit kills with 10 on 28 attempts, hitting .321. Hoffmann dished out 18 assists and added 10 digs, while sophomore
Taylor Mueller led the defense with 15 digs. As a team, the Monarchs totaled 22 assists on 22 kills and added a total 48 digs in the loss.
King's is back in action Thursday as they travel to Keystone College at 6:00 pm before returning home on Friday as they host the Eagles of the College of Saint Elizabeth starting at 5:00 pm.
