Harrington’s Career Day Leads Women’s Soccer At Neumann

ASTON, PA (September 28, 2019) --- Emily Harrington recorded a career high five points on two goals and an assist to pace the King's College women's soccer team to a 5-0 victory at host Neumann University on Saturday afternoon in Aston.

Harrington, who was coming off a three-point performance on Wednesday against Alvernia, assisted on King's second goal of the day and then scored twice in a 90 second span. The junior forward had totaled 12 of her 14 points this season in the last three matches with four goals and four assists.

The Monarchs (5-4-0) came out strong for the second straight match as Breanna Jacinto, Bekah Araujo, and Harrington all took shots in the opening minutes that missed the target. Jacinto got King's on the board early in the sixth minute with her fourth goal of the season and fifth of her career. KC kept the pressure on the Knights as Kara Keim and Abby Castle tested NU keeper Payton Clements in the eighth and ninth minutes. Clements was able to make saves on both shots to keep the deficit at one.

The Knights responded with a pair of shots on goal that Tara Bender made easy work of. In the 26th minute Harrington found Araujo on a cross into the box that the forward put into the back of the net for a 2-0 lead. The goal was the fourth of the season for Araujo and the fifth of her career. It also marks the second straight match and third time in the last four matches that Jacinto, Araujo, and Harrington all recorded at least one point.

Harrington wasn't done for the day though as she extended the Monarch lead with her fourth goal of the season in the 38th minute. 78 seconds later she scored again giving KC a 4-0 lead going into the break.

King's kept up the strong offensive play in the second half as Clements made saves on shots by Jacinto, Kristen Dobkowski, and Casey Genovese in the first 15 minutes of the half. Freshman Angelina Falcone scored King's fifth and final goal in the 76th minute for her second of the season.

The Monarchs took a season high 26 shots putting 16 on goal. Neumann put five of their 12 shots on goal as Tara Bender recorded her first shutout of the season with five saves. Clements finished with 11 saves in goal for the Knights.

The junior trio of Harrington, Jacinto and Araujo have come on strong to lead the Monarchs in recent weeks leading the Monarchs to three wins in the last four matches. Harrington now leads the team with 14 points on five goals and four assists. Jacinto is second with 12 points on four goals and four assists while Araujo is third with eight points on four goals.

King's will look to keep the positive momentum going in their final match before conference play begins next weekend as they host Ursinus on Wednesday at 6 pm in McCarthy Stadium.
