Monarch Field Hockey Topped By Susquehanna Saturday

WILKES-BARRE, PA (September 7, 2019) -- The King's College field hockey team saw visiting Susquehanna University score in all four quarters, as the River Hawks picked up a non-conference NCAA victory over the Monarchs 6-0 in play from McCarthy Stadium Saturday.

Susquehanna moved to 1-3 on the season, while the Monarchs dropped to 0-2 on the young campaign. The River Hawks wasted no time getting on the board, as Hunter Pitman scored her second goal of the season on a scrum in front just 2:10 into the game.

Less than five minutes later, the River Hawks added to their lead as Jenn Sabbak tallied unassisted off a deflection of a penalty corner, pushing the ball off the line after a nice save from King's goalkeeper Brianne Maluda

Pitman would scored her second of the day at 17:44 of the contest, sending the game to halftime with Susquehanna up 3-0. After the intermission, Anna Dietl tilled in a pass from Hayley Adams for her first of the year, and Adams earned her first goal of the year at 56:32 with help from Heather Casey. Pitman would finish the scoring on the day 33 seconds later, completing the hat trick at 57:05.

King's was outshot on the day 22-6, as Maluda finished with seven stops on the contest. Maluda was aided by three defensive saves, as Annie Ryan, Jennifer Smalley and Emily Sims all cleared shots off the line for the Monarchs. Bailey Jordan and Lauren Rowski each had two shots for the Monarchs, while Sara Whitesell also added a shot on goal.

The Monarchs will return to action Tuesday on the road in Allentown, PA, taking on Muhlenberg College at 7:30 p.m. in more non-conference play.
