Falcons Use Big Second Period To Defeat Men’s Ice Hockey

NEW HAVEN, CT (January 11, 2020) --- The hosts Albertus Magnus College men's ice hockey team scored four times in the second period to defeat King's College 5-2 on Saturday afternoon from the Ralph Walker Skating Rink in New Haven, Connecticut.

The Monarchs scored first in the first period for the fourth straight game as Tyler O'Mara tallied his first goal of the season and eighth of his career with 4:27 to go in the period. Rhett Padgett and Josh Edwards had the assists on the play. AMC evened the score up with 50 seconds left in the period right as the Monarchs were killing off their first penalty of the game.

In the second period the Falcons scored two quick goals in the first minute to take a 3-1 lead. They added another goal at 2:10 to increase the advantage to three goals before King's stopped the streak. Alex Acosta scored at 3:37 of the period off assists from Keaton Caplis and Tommy Cahill to cut the deficit down to 4-2. However, that was as close as the Monarchs would get as Albertus Magnus scored their final goal of the game with three minutes left in the period.

The Monarchs fought hard all game but were unable to get the puck pass AMC goalie Pierce Diamond. The freshman made 25 saves including 11 in the third period. Alexander Lazier and Michael Forgione led the Falcons with two points on one goal and one assist each. Charles Risk added two assists.

King's was much better on power play opportunities on Saturday than they were Friday night scoring one goal on four chances while holding the Falcons scoreless on three penalty kills. The Monarchs continued their string of disciplined play recording just three penalties in the game. Brandon Daigle finished with 33 saves in goal.

The Monarchs will return to conference play next weekend hosting Nazareth College on Friday night at 7 pm before welcoming the nationally ranked Pioneers of Utica College to Revolution Ice Centre on Saturday at 4 pm.
