Monarch Women Have Strong Day At Susquehanna

SELINSGROVE, PA (January 18, 2020) --- The King's College women's indoor track and field team had a successful return to the track in the squad's first meet of 2020 at the Orange and Maroon Classic hosted by Susquehanna University on Saturday.

There was no team scoring at the meet.

On the Track
60 Meters
Madde Wnukowski finished fourth in the sixth of six heats with a time of 8.89 seconds. That time equals her best time last year as a freshman at Cornell. Messiah sophomore Ellie Longshaw won the heat in 8.39 seconds while Bloomsburg junior Kathleen Stevenson had the fastest qualifying time of 8.05 seconds to win the second heat. Messiah junior Kathryn Wiederrecht edged Stevenson in the final with a time of 8.09 seconds to 8:13 seconds. Elizabethtown's Olivia McIntosh was third with a time of 8.21 seconds.

200 Meters
Kailey Orzechowski was the fastest of three Monarchs running a MAC qualifying and career best time of 28.82 seconds to finish 12th overall and third in the seventh of 10 heats. Her previous best time was 29.03 seconds at NYU Invitational two years ago. Sarah Ross finished fourth in the 10th heat with a time of 29.53 seconds while Madde Wnukowski ran 30.00 seconds to finish fourth in the ninth heat. Samantha Reed won on her home track with a time of 27.42 seconds in the 10th heat. Kathryn Wiederrecht of Messiah was second overall and in the heat with a time of 27.55 seconds while Bloomsburg freshman Sarah Castronova won the ninth heat in 27.58 seconds to finish third overall.

400 Meters
Kailey Orzechowski ran 1:06.02 to finish ninth out of 18 runners. She finished third in the fifth of five heat. Kate Ross had the fastest time on her home track running 1:02.77 in the third heat. Hailey Colabelli of Misericordia won the fourth heat in 1:03.73 to finish second overall while her teammate won the fifth heat in 1:03.99 to finish third.

800 Meters
Beth Albright finished second in the second of two heats and 10th overall with a time of 2:37.03. Misericordia senior Kelsey Hadsall won the heat in 2:35.88 while Elizabethtown sophomore had the fastest time of the day at 2:27.91. Messiah sophomore Ellissa Slader was second in 2:27.94 while Dickinson sophomore Lillana Matala was third with a time of 2:32.01.

60 Meter Hurdles
Kristine Krumpfer finished third in the third of four heats with a season best time of 10.50 seconds. Neeyah Turner of Penn State Harrisburg won the heat with a time of 10.08 seconds to qualify for the final. Kathryn Wiederrecht of Messiah had the fastest qualifying time at 9.51 seconds to win the second heat. In the final Wiederrecht ran 9.56 seconds to defeat Dickinson sophomore Alexandra Colby who finished second in 9.70 seconds. Shanya Booker of Frostburg State was third in 9.78 seconds.
 
Field Events
Long Jump
Sarah Ross had a season best jump of 4.88 meters (16'0.25") on her third attempt to finish eighth. The junior jumped 4.80 meters and 4.76 meters on her first two attempts. She did not record a mark on any of her jumps in the finals. Kathleen Stevenson of Bloomsburg had the best jump of the day at 5.56 meters (18'3") on her first attempt. Her teammate Dahlia Hosey was second with a mark of 5.36 meters (17'7") on her third try while another Bloomsburg jumper, Ashley Blannard, was third with a mark of 5.15 meters (16'10.75") on her fourth attempt.

Triple Jump
Gabriella Conforti came close to hitting her school record mark and recorded the second best mark in program history with a jump of 10.31 meters (33'10") on her sixth attempt to finish seventh in the field of 21. The freshman started with a mark of 10.16 meters before hitting 10.01 meters, 10.24 meters, and 10.00 meters on her next three jumps. She fouled on her fifth attempt before hitting her best mark. Kristine Krumpfer had a mark of 9.43 meters (30'11.25") on her second jump of the day. She fouled on her first and hit 9.32 meters on her second to miss qualifying for the finals. Carlow junior Olivia Miller had the best jump at 11.07 meters (36'4") on her fifth jump. Blannard was second with a mark of 10.62 meters (34'10.25") on her last jump while Misericordia senior Alexis Baddick was third with a jump of 10.45 meters (34'3.5") on her first attempt.
 
Shot Put
Sonia Okolo threw a MAC qualifying mark of 11.21 meters on her third attempt to finish second among 35 throwers. The senior had marks of 10.62 meters, 10.79 meters, 11.06 meters, 10.38 meters, and 10.87 meters on her other attempts. Danielle Kitchner threw another career best mark of 10.03 meters on her first throw of the day to finish sixth. The sophomore also had marks of 9.55 meters, 9.48 meters, 9.49 meters, and 9.50 meters. She fouled on her third attempt. She bettered her mark of 9.72 meters (31'10.75") she threw at Alvernia in December. Misericordia sophomore Brenna Karnish won with a mark of 13.03 meters on her third throw. Dickinson senior Mary Smith was third with a toss of 10.75 meters (35'3.25") on her fifth attempt.

The Monarchs will return to action next weekend at Cornell to compete against tough competition in the Upstate Challenge.
