PINE VALLEY, NY (January 24, 2020) --- Host Elmira College defeated the King's College men's ice hockey team 9-0 on Friday evening from the Murray Athletic Center Ice Arena in Pine Valley, NY.
The top-ranked power play team in Division III took advantage of four Monarch penalties with three power play goals including two in the first period to take a 3-0 lead after the first 20 minutes. The Soaring Eagles (11-4-1, 7-3-0 UCHC) added four more goals in the second period before scoring twice in the third period.
King's best chance to score came in the second period as
Alex Acosta received a beautiful cross ice pass on the left side. However, netminder Ben Fleischman made an incredible save on Acosta's shot to keep KC off the board.
EC held a 52-12 shot advantage in the game as
Brandon Daigle made 43 save in goal for KC. Elmira's top forward line of Nick Ford, Connor Powell, and Anthony Parrucci recorded nine of the team's 26 points. Powell had two goals and two assists, Ford scored twice and added an assist, and Parrucci had a goal and an assist. Matthew Cousino led the Soaring Eagles with four assists.
Tommy Cahill and
Rob Sheehan each had three shots for the Monarchs who have struggled to score in their past couple games. King's blocked 21 shots in the game led by
Keaton Caplis with four.
The Monarchs will return home to take on Lebanon Valley College on Saturday evening as they go for the season sweep over the Flying Dutchmen. Game time is scheduled for 7 pm from Revolution Ice Centre in Pittston.
