Green Goal Gives Monarchs Extra Point Against Lebanon Valley

PITTSTON, PA (January 25, 2020) --- King's College men's ice hockey captain Tommy Green scored 16 seconds into the 3-on-3 extra session to give the Monarchs an extra point in a 2-2 tie with Lebanon Valley College on Saturday evening from the Revolution Ice Centre in Pittston.

The game officially ends in a tie which marks the first-ever tie for the Monarchs and the first-ever points the team has recorded on home ice. KC then picked up an all-important extra point in the conference standings with the 3x3 win.

King's struck first in the game recording both of their goals in the first period. Rob Sheehan tallied his third goal of the year 3:04 into the game as the Monarchs took advantage of the first penalty of the game. Tyler O'Mara and Josh Edwards had the assists on the power play goal. Six minutes later, Alex Acosta made it 2-0 with his third goal of the season. Michael DiSchiavi and Tommy Cahill contributed to the goal.

LVC got on the board early in the second period as the Dutchmen scored while playing two men up after a pair of early Monarch penalties in the period. The game remained the same until the final minute of regulation. Leb Val pulled their goalie for an extra attacker with just under two minutes to play and with 51 ticks on the clock Justin Hall lit the lamp for his fifth goal of the year to send the game into overtime. Neither team was able to score in the extra session prior to the exciting 3x3 period.

Keaton Caplis, Edwards, and Cahill had four shots each to lead the Monarchs while Sheehan, Acosta, and DiSchiavi totaled three apiece.  Tyler Sayger had another amazing performance in goal stopping 37 of the 39 shots he faced.

The Monarchs will be back at the Rev next weekend for a pair of home games against Stevenson University and Chatham University. KC will host the Mustangs on Friday night at 7 pm before taking on the Cougars on Saturday at 3:30 pm in the first game of a doubleheader with the women's team.
