ITHACA, NY (January 25, 2020) --- Freshman
Gabriella Conforti improved her own school record in the triple jump on Saturday to highlight another impressive performance by the King's College women's indoor track and field team at the Upstate Challenge.
There was no team scoring among the non-Division I school at the Invitational hosted by Cornell University at Barton Hall.
On the Track
200 Meter Dash
Kailey Orzechowski ran a career best time of 28.65 seconds to finish 23rd in the field of 46 sprinters. The junior was second in the eighth of 12 heats only being beat in her heat by Cornell senior Anastashia Alfred who crossed the line in 27.83 seconds. Freshman
Angelina Broga was right behind Orzechowski with a time of 28.75 seconds while winning the ninth heat by a little over a half second over Colgate sophomore Sarah Silverman.
Sarah Ross ran her season best time of 28.98 seconds in the fifth heat finishing second to Utica sophomore Laura Meade who ran 27.86 seconds.
Madde Wnukowski also ran a season best time of 29.56 seconds to finish fourth in the seventh heat. Amherst senior Isabel Park won the heat in 28.40 seconds. Binghamton had the best two times of the day with Dominique Jackson beating teammate Krittany Korsah in the first heat with a time of 25.44 seconds. Korsah ran 25.61 seconds while Cornell sophomore Kayleigh Furth was third overall and won the second heat in 25.76 seconds.
400 Meter Dash
Kailey Orzechowski came within a second of the 400 meters school record with a career best time of 1:03.78 to finish ninth out of 17 runners while
Sarah Ross was not too far behind her at a MAC qualifying time of 1:04.45. Ross holds the school record at 1:03.03 which is now two years old. Orzechowski was second in the third of four heats while Ross was fifth in a packed second heat.
Madde Wnukowski was also in the second heat with Orzechowski and ran 1:14.97 to finish fourth as Utica junior Julianne Emerson won the heat in 1:03.41. Cornell junior Kellian Kelly won the first heat with the best time of the day at 59.11 seconds followed by Amherst sophomore Anna Madden who finished second in 1:00.72. The second heat had the next four fastest times of the day with Amherst sophomore Katie Lingen winning the heat in 1:01.78.
800 Meter Run
Beth Albright lowered her career best time running 2:31.10 to finish 13th out of 32 runners. She was sixth in the second of three heats that was won by Buffalo sophomore Riley Jones in 2:25.87. Her time was the third fastest in program history. The top three times of the day were in the first heat by Cornell teammates. Melissa Zammitti won in 2:18.18 followed by Elise Burdette in 2:19.07. Sydney Smith was third in 2:23.13.
60 Meter Hurdles
Emily Harrington finished fourth with a season best time of 9.60 seconds in the finals after running 9.78 seconds in the preliminaries. The junior finished second in the first of three prelim heats with the fifth-fastest preliminary time. Amherst junior Ella Rossa won with a time of 8.88 seconds in the final after running the fastest prelim time at 9.04 seconds in the second heat. Cornell freshman Ama Boham was second in 8.93 seconds after winning Harrington's heat in 9.09 seconds. Buffalo sophomore Elsa Antal finished third in 9.35 seconds after recording the third-fastest prelim time to win the third heat in 9.25 seconds. In the final Harrington just edged Buffalo sophomore Lydia Lanski at the line with Lanski also running 9.60 seconds.
Kristine Krumpfer finished fourth in the second heat and just missed the final finishing ninth overall in a season best 10.25 seconds.
Field Events
Long Jump
Sarah Ross did not record a mark fouling on all three of her attempts. Buffalo sophomore Christina Wende topped the field of 20 with a mark of 5.54 meters (18'2.25") on her sixth attempt of the day. Sophia Morone, a freshman from Binghamton, was second with a mark of 5.37 meters (17'7.5") on her first jump while Cornell freshman Dea Fackovic Volcanjk was third with a jump of 5.36 meters (17'7") on her second attempt.
Triple Jump
Gabriella Conforti finished seventh out of 13 jumpers while improving her own school record with a mark of 10.75 meters (35'3.25") on her fourth attempt. She bested her previous best jump of 10.34 meters from the season-opening meet last month. Conforti only recorded one other mark in her six attempts which was 10.56 meters on her second attempt.
Kristine Krumpfer did not record a mark on three jumps. Binghamton junior Brittany Korsah topped the field with a mark of 11.71 meters (38'5") on her first attempt while Cornell senior Zenab Ojibe was second with a mark of 11.56 meters (37'11.25") on her second jump. Libby Gresin and Nia Joyner of Binghamton were both third with identical marks of 11.40 meters (37'5") on their sixth jumps.
Shot Put
Sonia Okolo finished seventh of 16 throwers with a season best toss of 11.35 meters (37'3") on her fourth toss. The senior started with marks of 10.90 meters and 11.25 meters on her first two throws before fouling on her third. After her best throw of the day she finished with marks of 10.69 meters and 11.13 meters.
Danielle Kitchner had another career best throw of 10.21 meters (33'6") on her first attempt to finish 10th. Kitchner fouled on her other two throws. Buffalo freshman Molly McCreddy topped the field with a mark of 14.77 meters (48'5.5") on her fourth toss. Cornell had the second and third best marks of the day as Nikolia Kanaris threw 14.30 meters (46'11") on her fourth toss and Beatrice Juskeviciute had a mark of 12.64 meters (41'5.75") on her third throw.
King's will be back in action next Friday when they travel to the world famous Armory in New York City to compete in the NYU Division III Invitational.
