PITTSTON, PA (January 7, 2020) --- The King's College men's ice hockey team dropped their second straight overtime affair on Tuesday afternoon as Morrisville State College scored with 1:34 left in the extra session to defeat the Monarchs 2-1 from Revolution Ice Centre in Pittston.
Playing their first home game of 2020 the Monarchs (1-10-0) gave the home crowd something to cheer about in the first period as
Tommy Cahill scored his fifth goal of the season 6:42 into the game.
Alex Acosta and
Michael DiSchiavi assisted on the play as KC scored first in the first period for the second straight game.
Morrisville State (7-6-0) evened the score in the second period as Austin Roy just snuck the puck inside the upper right pipe for his first goal of the season. James Boisvert scored the game-winner 3:26 into overtime for his second goal of the season.
The Monarchs were called for four penalties in the game but were very disciplined on the penalty kill and killed off all four power play opportunities.
Tyler Sayger was excellent in goal making a season high 47 saves for a .959 save percentage. The freshman denied nine shots during the four power play opportunities for the Mustangs. Sayger made 11 saves in the first period, 13 in the second, a huge 17 in the third period and then six in the extra session before MSC scored the game-winner.
Tyler O'Mara and Cahill led the team in the faceoff circle as O'Mara won 13 of his 27 attempts while Cahill won 12 of his 24 attempts. King's blocked nine shots led by
Connor Lavin and
Matt Amelio with two each.
King's will look to end their losing skid this weekend when they travel to Albertus Magnus for a pair of games on Friday and Saturday. Puck drop is scheduled for 7 pm on Friday evening at Ralph Walker Rink in New Haven, CT while Saturday's contest will begin at 4 pm.
