Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Four Score Double Figures in Loss at DeSales

CENTER VALLEY, PA (February 1, 2020) -- Four finished in double figures, but a fourth-quarter run by the DeSales University Bulldogs was too much to handle as the King's College women's basketball team fell, 75-56, in Billera Hall Saturday afternoon in Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom (MAC Freedom) play.

The Bulldogs opened the game on a 7-0 run before a layup by sophomore Samantha Rajza broke the scoring drought. King's was able to close within three with 4:28 to go in the first off a pair of free throws by senior Mackenzie Yori, but DeSales continued their hot-shooting first quarter to lead by eight, 22-14, after one quarter of play. The Bulldog lead swelled to 11 with 7:54 left in the half before both teams went scoreless over the next 2:46. Freshman Emily Morano drained a three to break the drought and spark an 11-3 run for the Monarchs to end the half and pull within two, 34-32, into the break.

Another slow start saw King's trailing by just four, 38-34, with 4:40 left in the third before a 12-5 run by the Bulldogs ended the quarter with the Monarchs down, 50-41. Sophomore Emily Kriston connected for three just 20 seconds into the final quarter, but DeSales answered with five straight to spark a 25-15 fourth quarter score to hand the Monarchs their second straight MAC Freedom loss.

Kriston led the Monarchs with 15 points, totaling three three-pointers, and added a team-high five assists, four rebounds, and two steals. Morano came off the bench to total 14 points, with a team-high three steals and five rebounds. Senior Rebecca Prociak and Rajza rounded out the offense, as Prociak recorded 13 points, seven boards, and three assists, and Rajza added 10 points, a team-high nine rebounds, and two steals.

Averi Jordan led the Bulldogs (15-4, 7-1 MAC Freedoom) with a double-double of 20 points and 15 rebounds, while Samantha Shinkus added 16 points with a team-high six assists. Rylie Rittenhouse came off the bench to record a double-double of her own with 14 points and 11 boards.

The Monarchs had a strong second quarter, as they shot 6-for-14 (42.9%) from the field and outscored the Bulldogs, 18-12. Overall, King's shot 33.3 percent (20-60) for the game. They dished out 10 assists on their 20 baskets, and they forced 15 DeSales turnovers, committing eight steals. King's also pulled down 36 team rebounds in the loss.

King's (12-7, 6-2 MAC Freedom) returns home for both games next week, hosting Eastern University on Wednesday at 8:00 p.m. before hosting FDU-Florham on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
