Defensive Effort Leads Women's Hoops in Win Over Delaware Valley

DOYLESTOWN, PA (February 12, 2020) --  The King's College women's basketball team snapped a four-game losing streak as they defeated the Delaware University Aggies, 71-42, Wednesday night in Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom (MAC Freedom) play in James Work Gymnasium.

Both teams opened the game in a back-and-forth effort that saw the Monarchs leading by one, 13-12, with 1:40 left in the quarter before freshman Emily Morano recorded six straight points for the Monarchs to hold a 19-12 advantage at the end of the first. King's continued to build their lead, posting 37-20 halftime score after senior Rebecca Prociak got her own offensive rebound and connected for a layup with 35 seconds left.

The second half was controlled by the Monarchs as they held the Aggies to just nine points in the third quarter, leading 60-29 off a layup by senior Sara Wolbert with one quarter left to play. King's recorded their largest lead of the game as sophomore Emily Kriston corralled her own missed shot and finished the play with a basket to push the Monarchs lead to 36, 71-35, as they cruised to a 71-42 final in Doylestown.

Senior Mackenzie Yori continued her hot-shooting to lead the Monarchs (13-9, 7-4 MAC Freedom) with 17 points on 6-of-11 shooting with four assists and two steals. The sophomore duo of Samantha Rajza and Kriston filled the stat sheet, as Rajza recorded 14 points on 7-of-14 shooting with a game-high five steals, five rebounds, and two assists, and Kriston came up just shy of a double-double with 10 points on 4-of-6 shooting with nine boards and two assists.

Prociak continued her defensive efforts, totaling a game-high 14 rebounds with nine points and four assists, and Morano came off the bench to provide an offensive burst yet again with 13 points on 4-of-8 shooting with five boards and three assists. In addition, Wolbert came off the bench to record five rebounds in the win.

Delaware Valley (1-21, 0-10 MAC Freedom) was led by Lauren Moretti with 17 points and three assists, while Erin Buckman and Sarah Wills led with five rebounds each. In the paint, Emily Kutskel recorded five blocks in the loss, and Shayne Glenn led with two steals.

As a team, the Monarchs shot 39.1 percent (27-69) in the win, dishing out 17 assists on their 27-made field goals. King's posted a dominating advantage on the boards, out-rebounding the Aggies, 52-32. They also forced 25 Delaware Valley turnovers, totaling 13 steals. Inside the box score, the Monarchs held the advantage in points off turnovers (25-10), second chance points (11-2), bench points (21-8), points in the paint (38-28), and fast break points (15-1).

King's returns to play on Saturday as they host cross-town rival Wilkes University for their senior day, with tip-off set for 1:00 p.m. in McGrane Gymnasium.
