Senior Duo Leads Monarch Women Over Wilkes on Senior Day

WILKES-BARRE, PA (February 15, 2020) -- The senior duo of Rebecca Prociak and Mackenzie Yori helped pace the King's College women's basketball team on their senior day as the Monarchs defeated cross-town rival Wilkes University, 95-78, in Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom (MAC Freedom) play Saturday afternoon in McGrane Gymnasium.

The Monarchs opened the game on a 7-0 run before the Colonels answered with back-to-back threes to inch within one, 7-6, with 5:32 left in the opening quarter. King's responded with a 17-5 run to hold a 13-point advantage, 24-11, off a pair of free throws by senior Sara Wolbert with 1:53 to play, but Wilkes answered with a run of their own to pull within eight, 25-17, at the end of the first. A basket by sophomore Zoe Stein kept the Monarchs offense rolling in the second quarter as they pushed their lead to 14, and Wilkes was able to cut the lead to single digits before King's answered and saw their biggest lead at 18 off a layup by Prociak with 1:25 to go in the half as they posted the 48-31 advantage into the break.

King's carried their momentum into the second half, storming out to a 28-point lead off a layup by Yori with 3:35 to go in the third, but Wilkes ended the quarter on a 12-2 run to pull within 16, 71-55. The Colonels cut the deficit to 11 with 8:03 to go, but the Monarchs put the game away with a 17-9 run, beginning with a three by senior Kayla Dillinger and ending with a three by Yori over a span of 5:18 of action as they posted the final, 95-78.

Prociak recorded her 12th double double of the season to lead King's (14-9, 8-4 MAC Freedom), posting a game-high 25 points on 11-of-14 shooting with 10 rebounds, seven assists, five blocks, and two steals. Yori recorded 20 points on 4-of-8 shooting, including 3-of-5 from three.

Sophomore Samantha Rajza filled the stat sheet, totaling 17 points on 6-of-10 shooting with seven assists and two steals. Also in double figures for the Monarchs were sophomore Emily Kriston and freshman Emily Morano with 11 each, and Kriston had a stat in nearly every category with eight boards, six assists and two steals.

Wilkes (8-15, 2-10 MAC Freedom) was led by six in double figures behind 17 points by Brenna Babcoock. Katelyn Kinczel (14) and Gabby Smicherko (12) were other top scorers, and Brianna Horton led with five rebounds and four assists.

King's shot a remarkable 58.7 percent (37-63) from the field and 44.0 percent (11-25) from three. The Monarchs also dished out 25 assists on their 37 field goals, and they held the advantage on the boards, out rebounding the Colonels 34-31. Their defensive pressure forced 15 Wilkes turnovers, committing 10 steals in the win. Inside the box score, the Monarchs held the advantage in points from turnovers (17-12), points in the paint (46-44), second chance points (10-6), and fast break points (20-8).

The Monarchs are back in action on Saturday for their final regular-season home game on Tuesday as they host the Misericordia University Cougars in MAC Freedom play with tip-off set for 8:00 p.m.
