RYE, NY (February 14, 2020) --- The host Valiants of Manhattanville College used a four-goal first period to defeat the King's College men's ice hockey team 8-1 in an United Collegiate Hockey Conference (UCHC) contest from the Playland Ice Casino on Friday evening in Rye, NY.
The Valiants (9-12-2, 6-9-1 UCHC) scored first as Joel Knight knocked the puck into the back of the net at 7:43 of the first period. King's (2-19-1, 1-13-1 UCHC) responded a couple minutes later as O'Mara scored his fourth goal of the season with King's on the power play. The goal was the junior's 11th of his career and 19th career point.
Keaton Caplis and
Michael DiSchiavi were credited with the assists on the goal. The assist was the fourth of the season for Caplis while DiSchiavi recorded his 10th assist of the season and 18th career point.
Manhattanville responded with a power play goal of their own and then scored two more goals in the final three minutes of the period to take a 4-1 lead into the first intermission. The Valiants then scored twice in the second period and twice in the third to set the final score. M'Ville finished the night with four power play goals on four opportunities and added one penalty shot goal. Niko Happo led the team with six points on two goals and four assists while Ken McLean added two goals and one assist. Knight also scored twice to lead the Valiant offense attack.
The Monarchs had a rough night on special teams as they went one-for-eight on their power play opportunities.
Brandon Daigle made 14 saves in goal before being replaced by
Eric Daniel in the second period. Daniel played excellent in relief making 25 saves over the last 38:09 of the game. O'Mara led the team with seven shots and won 12 of 21 faceoffs.
Cameron Anklewich won a team high 14 faceoffs on 25 attempts.
King's will look to rebound tomorrow afternoon when they take on Neumann University at 4 pm from the IceWorks Skating Complex in Aston, PA.
