SELINSGROVE, PA (February 15, 2020) --- The King's College women's indoor track and field team had a great day at the SU Invitational on Saturday as the Monarchs gear up for the Middle Atlantic Conference Championships in two weeks.
There was no team scoring at the meet.
On The Track
60 Meters
Madde Wnukowski ran 8.77 seconds to finish third in the fifth of seven preliminary heats. The sophomore was just 0.05 seconds off her fastest time of the season while finishing 15th overall out of 37 sprinters. Johns Hopkins freshman Marissa Hsu won the heat in 8.10 seconds and had the fastest time of the day in prelims. Hsu then won the final over Shippensburg sophomore Adriana Baxter with a time of 7.98 seconds. Baxter was second in 8.12 seconds while Eastern senior Nicole Weenink was third in 8.17 seconds.
ualed his school record time of 7.06 seconds to win beating Shannon-Hatchett by a second. The sophomore from IUP ran 7.07 seconds (7.063) to edge out Washington College's Konu Gardesey for second place. Gardesey ran 7.07 seconds (7.065) to finish third.
200 Meters
Madde Wnukowski finished fourth in the eighth of 10 heats with a season best time of 29.08 seconds. The sophomore moved closer to qualifying for MACs in the event with just one more meet left. Stevenson junior Ryley Hinson won the heat in 27.67 seconds. Eastern senior Nicole Weenink had the best time of the day at 26.66 seconds in heat 10 while Susquehanna senior Samantha Reed was second in 27.00 seconds. JHU junior Annie Gutierrez won the ninth heat to finish third overall out of 39 sprinters in 27.56 seconds.
800 Meters
Tara Johnson ran a MAC qualifying time of 2:34.80 to finish 11th in the fourth of four heats and 20th overall out of 42 runners. The senior had the top four times of the day in her heat as Eastern junior Katelyn Bernotas won with a time of 2:18.89. Dickinson junior Allyson Yanega was second in 2:25.84 while Gettysburg sophomore Georgia Larzelere was third in 2:26.01.
Beth Albright ran a time of 2:37.56 to finish ninth in the third heat while
Kaylee Lyons made her collegiate debut with a time of 3:08.34 in the first heat. Shippensburg freshman Phylicia Hockman won Albright's heat in 2:29.08 while SU freshman Meghan McDonald won the first heat in 2:41.60.
Mile
Tara Johnson qualified for the Middle Atlantic Conference Championships with a time of 5:36.35 to finish fourth in the third of three heats. The senior qualified for her fourth consecutive conference championships with the sixth fastest time in program history. Eastern senior Megan Bernotas won the heat in 5:21.46 while IUP freshman Paige Wess was second in 5:27.71. Alvernia sophomore Katelyn Schoener was third in 5:32.99.
Kelsie Canessa ran a season best time of 5:59.40 to finish 10th in the second heat. The junior was just three seconds off her career best time. Susquehanna senior Emily Eck won the heat in 5:40.34.
Anna Marie Beyer made her season debut and ran a time of 7:27.01 to finish 14th in the first heat. Dickinson sophomore Hannah Herzon won the heat in 6:04.97.
60 Meter Hurdles
Emily Harrington had a time of 10.21 seconds to finish third in the sixth of seven preliminary heats. Stevenson junior Rachel Panek won the heat in 9.73 seconds. Freshman
Kristine Krumpfer was 0.02 seconds off her season best time as she ran 10.27 seconds to finish third in the fifth heat. Alvernia junior Susanna Pirollo won the heat in 9.77 seconds. Harrington finished 15th overall out of 33 hurdlers while Krumpfer was 16th. Johns Hopkins junior Annie Gutierrez had the fastest prelim time of 9.14 seconds running in the fourth heat. Mount Saint Mary's junior Karington Smith won the final in 9.04 seconds as Gutierrez was second in 9.12 seconds. Alvernia freshman Amanda Tony was third in 9.60 seconds.
4x200 Meter Relay
The Monarchs team of
Sarah Ross,
Kailey Orzechowski,
Angelina Broga, and
Emily Harrington ran the third fastest time in program history to finish second of eight teams with a time of 1:53.87. The Monarchs were only defeated by Eastern's squad that ran 1:51.95. Scranton was third with a time of 1:54.08. King's was just a second off the school record of 1:52.85.
4X400 Meter Relay
The squad of
Sarah Ross,
Kailey Orzechowski,
Angelina Broga, and
Beth Albright ran the third fastest time in program history to finish fourth out of 13 teams and second in the fourth of four heats. Their time of 4:25.27 was five seconds off the school record and about 10 seconds off Eastern's winning time of 4:16.70. Dickinson was second in 4:22.78 while Scranton was third in 4:23.82.
Field Events
High Jump
Sarah Zultevicz came close to her school record height with a mark of 1.50 meters (4'11") to finish sixth 25 jumpers after tiebreakers. The junior hit 1.40 meters and 1.45 meters on her first attempts before needing three tries at 1.50 meters. She then missed all three attempts at what would be a school record 1.55 meters. Mount St. Mary's senior Ashlynn Cook jumped 1.55 meters (5'1") and earned the tiebreaker over Scranton sophomore Meghan McGonigle who finished with the same height by virtue of clearing it on less attempts. LVC freshman Ashley Bartels cleared 1.50 meters (4'11") on her first attempt to finish third.
Emily Harrington did not record a mark fouling on all three attempts at 1.40 meters.
Long Jump
Sarah Ross recorded a mark of 4.90 meters (16'1") on her third jump to finish 14th out of 35 jumpers. The junior did not record a mark on her first two jumps.
Sarah Zultevicz finished 18th with a mark of 4.84 meters (15'10.5") on her first attempt. The junior did not record a mark on her second jump and then hit 4.76 meters on her third attempt. Eastern senior Nicole Weenink had the best jump of the day at 5.53 meters (18'1.75") on her sixth attempt. IUP senior Nikeela Austin was second with a mark of 5.50 meters (18'0.5") on her third attempt while JHU freshman Marissa Hsu was third with a mark of 5.39 meters (17'8.25") on her sixth try.
Triple Jump
Gabriella Conforti recorded her second best mark of the year with a jump of 10.59 meters (34'9") on her third of five attempts to finish seventh out of 21 jumpers. The freshman did not record a mark of three of her attempts but did hit 10.52 meters on her second attempt before recording her best jump of the day.
Kristine Krumpfer only recorded a mark on her third attempt which was her third best jump of the year at 9.65 meters (31'8"). Sierra Brabham-Lawrence topped the field with a mark of 12.11 meters (39'8.75") on her third attempt while IUP senior Nikeela Austin was the top collegiate finisher with a mark of 11.41 meters (37'5.25") on her fifth jump. Susquehanna junior Sara Arbogast was third with a mark of 11.29 meters (37'0.5") on her second and last attempt of the day.
Shot Put
Sonia Okolo finished sixth out of 36 throwers with a mark of 11.20 meters (36'9") on her fifth toss of the afternoon. The senior started with throws of 11.01 meters, 10.30 meters, and 10.41 meters. She did not record a mark on her first attempt of the final and then hit 10.20 meters on her first throw.
Danielle Kitchner had another career best toss with a mark of 10.42 meters (34'2.25") on her first try to finish 12th. The sophomore did not record a mark on her other two attempts. Rutgers-Camden freshman Emily Hilt topped the field with a throw of 12.62 meters (41'5") on her fourth toss. Stevenson senior Danika Ani was second with a mark of 12.09 meters (39'8") on her third attempt while JHU sophomore Kelsey Neff was third with a mark of 11.76 meters (38'7") on her fifth toss.
The Monarchs will have one last regular season meet next weekend as they travel back up to Cornell University for the Marc Denault Invitational next Saturday.
