Monarch Women Improve Seeds For MAC Championships

ITHACA, NY (February 22, 2020) --- The King's College women's indoor track and field team made their final preparations for next weekend's Middle Atlantic Conference Championship by improving their seeds in different events while competing in the Marc Deneault Invitational on the campus of Cornell University.
 
There was no team scoring at the meet.
 
60 Meters
Angelina Broga and Madde Wnukowski both ran in the second of five preliminary heats and finished fifth and sixth in the heat. Broga ran a season best and MAC qualifying time of 8.50 seconds while Wnukowski ran a season best 8.69 seconds. Gemma Acheampong won the heat in 7.66 seconds. Flings Owusu-Agyapong had the best prelim time at 7.54 seconds and then won the final in 7.42 seconds. Acheampong was second in 7.49 seconds while Syracuse freshman Aja Davis was the top collegiate finisher in 7.50 seconds.
 
200 Meters
Angelina Broga won the sixth of seven heats in a season best 28.16 seconds. The freshman won by over half a second over Tylisha Gourdine who finished second in the heat with a time of 28.54 seconds. Madde Wnukowski finished fourth in the fifth heat with a season best time of 28.92 seconds. Two of the top three times were run in the first heat as Trinity Miller ran 25.29 seconds beating Ithaca freshman Tia Jones who finished in 25.38 seconds. Cornell freshman was third by winning the second heat in 25.60 seconds.
 
400 Meters
Kailey Orzechowski and Sarah Ross finished seventh and eighth in the field of 18 with two of the fastest times in program history. Orzechowski's time of 1:03.52 is her second fastest of the season and sixth in program history. Ross ran 1:03.65 which is also her second fastest of the year. Ross finished fourth in the second of four heats while Orzechowski won the third heat. Cornell freshman Isabella Davis had the best time of the day in the first heat running 58.15 seconds. Cortland senior Jesse Correale was second with a time of 1:01.58. Kaylee Uhl was third overall and won the second heat in 1:02.12.
  
600 Meters
Emily Harrington crushed the school record with a time of 1:52.00 to finish fifth. The junior beat the previous record of 2:07.86 that was run by Alyssa Robinson at East Stroudsburg two years ago. Syracuse sophomore Bearett Tarris won in 1:42.45 while Delhi sophomore Katerina Salcedo was second in 1:43.89. Salcedo's junior teammate Arielle Moheimani was third with a time of 1:47.60.
 
800 Meters
Beth Albright ran a career best time of 2:30.05 to finish 11th out of 25 runners. Albright won the second of two heats by over two seconds. Her time is the third fastest in program history. Tara Johnson was right behind her finishing 11th in the first heat with a season best time of 2:30.39. Sascha Scott won the heat in 2:14.09. Ithaca had the next three finishers with senior Sarah Rudge running 2:15.18 and sophomore Lindsay Scott crossing the line in 2:17.06 to round out the top three finishers. Kaylee Lyons ran a season best time of 3:00.56 in the second heat.
 
Mile
Tara Johnson had a season best time of 5:33.89 to finished 11th in the field of 22. Syracuse senior Kelsey Potts won the race with a time of 5:14.56 edging Cornell sophomore Rebecca Hasser who ran 5:14.78. Syracuse sophomore Abigail Walsh was third in 5:15.54. Anna Marie Beyer finished in 7:23.86.
 
3000 Meters
Kelsie Canessa finished sixth in the first of two heats with a time of 12:57.27. Scranton had the top two finishers in the heat as junior Nicole Parello won with a time of 11:32.29 and freshman teammate Molly Neeson was second in 11:52.48. Ithaca freshman Julia DiGeronimo was third in 11:57.74. Syracuse freshman Kate Kemnitz had the best time of the day at 10:33.41 while junior teammate Emma Wilson was second in 10:38.60. Cornell freshman Sarah Barcelona was third in 10:46.77.
 
60 Meter Hurdles
Emily Harrington qualified for the final with a season best time of 9.59 seconds to finish third in the second of three heats. Kristine Krumpfer was fifth in the heat with a time of 10.25 seconds. Harrington's time is fourth fastest in program history. Syracuse freshman Shaleah Colaire won the heat with the fastest preliminary time of the day at 8.63 seconds. In the final Harrington was on her way to running a better time but she clipped the last hurdle and finished with a time of 9.63 seconds to finish eighth. Colaire won in 8.52 seconds while Cornell senior Brittany Stenekes was second in 8.69 seconds and her freshman teammate Ama Boham was third in 8.85 seconds.
 
High Jump
Sarah Zultevicz cleared 1.47 meters (4'9.75") to finish in a tie for fourth out of eight jumpers. The junior cleared her first attempt at the starting height of the meet. She missed all three attempts at 1.52 meters which would have equaled her career best. Cornell had the top three jumpers with junior Marguerite Lorenzo clearing 1.73 meters (5'8") to finish first. Olivia Rodriguez was second at 1.70 meters (5'7") while Monique Anderson was third with a height of 1.67 meters (5'5.75").
 
Long Jump
Sarah Ross finished sixth out of 21 jumpers with a season best mark of 5.06 meters (16'7.25") on her second attempt. The junior had a jump of 5.01 meters on her first attempt and 4.89 meters on her third. She did not record a mark on her fourth and fifth tries before reaching 4.85 meters on her final attempt. Cornell sophomore Leone Farquharson topped the field with a jump of 6.22 meters (20'5") on her only attempt of the day. New Delhi senior Madeeah Oranchak finished second with a jump of 5.47 meters (17'11.5") on her third attempt. Ithaca sophomore Logan Bruce was third with a mark of 5.37 meters (17'7.5") on her third jump.
 
Triple Jump
Gabriella Conforti finished fourth with her second best jump of the year at 10.62 meters (34'10.25") on her fourth attempt. The freshman started with a mark of 10.34 meters before fouling on her next two attempts. She passed on her final two attempts after hitting her best mark. Kristine Krumpfer also recorded her second best jump to finish sixth at 10.17 meters (33'4.5") on her third attempt. The freshman fouled on every attempt except for the third and fifth try. Her fifth attempt was recorded at 9.99 meters. Cornell senior topped the field with a mark of 11.74 meters (38'6.25") on her third jump. Cortland senior Kelly Gardner was second with a jump of 10.89 meters (35'8.75") on her second attempt while Ithaca junior Molly Sear was third at 10.75 meters (35'3.25") on her third jump.
 
Shot Put
Sonia Okolo finished sixth in the field of 15 with a season best throw of 11.49 meters (37'8.5") on her first toss of the day. The senior had marks of 11.28 meters, 11.39 meters, 11.46 meters, 10.86 meters, and 11.34 meters on her other five throws. Danielle Kitchner also had another career best toss to finish ninth with a mark of 10.55 meters (34'7.5") on her third attempt. The sophomore fouled on her first throw and then hit 9.94 on her second throw. Cornell senior Nikolia Kanaris topped the field with a mark of 14.25 meters (46'9") on her fourth toss. Competing unattached All-American Jill Korgeski finished second as she gets ready for the outdoor season with a toss of 12.45 meters (40'10.25") on her first throw. Korgeski, who was a four-year NCAA indoor qualifier, fouled on her second toss and then hit 11.86 meters before calling it a day and passing on all her throws in finals. Cornell freshman Victoria Rudolph was third with a throw of 11.90 meters (39'0.5") on her last attempt.
