Harrington Pentathlon Finish Highlights MAC Indoor Championships Day 2 For Women's Track & Field

READING, PA (February 29, 2020) -- Junior Emily Harrington finished third in the pentathlon Saturday afternoon, highlighting the action for the King's College women's track and field team in the second and final day at the 2020 Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Indoor Track and Field Championships from the Flynn PLEX on the campus of Alvernia University. 

The King's women's squad finished tied for ninth with DeSales University with 24 points. 

200 Meters
Freshman Angelina Broga posted a new personal-best time in the 200 meters Saturday, as the newcomer chalked up a 28.05 to finish 18th overall. Her time bested the previous season-best time of 28.16, set last weekend at the Marc Denault Invitational at Cornell University. Kathryn Wiederrecht from Messiah University won the event with a 25.73. 

400 Meters
Kailey Orzechowski ran a career best time and the second fastest time in program history at 1:03.12 to finish fifth in the third of four heats and 12th overall in the field of 20. Eastern junior Cecilia Jones won the heat in 1:00.66 while finishing fourth overall. Sarah Ross was third in the second heat with a time of 1:04.41. Eastern freshman Rayven Rouse won the heat in 1:03.04. Stevens senior Gina Dello Russo won the gold medal with a time of 57.49 seconds in the fourth heat. Messiah earned silver and bronze as Ellissa Slader ran 58.38 seconds to finish second and Ester Seeland ran 1:00.35 to finish third.
 
800 Meters
Beth Albright finished second in the first of two heats and eighth overall to score one point with a career best time of 2:28.52. Her time is the third fastest in program history. Messiah freshman Olivia Cory won the heat in 2:27.61. Messiah sophomore Esther Seeland took home the gold medal with a time of 2:19.09 followed by a pair of Eastern runners. Junior Katelyn Bernotas was second in 2:21.66 while her freshman teammate was third in 2:23.24.
 
60 Meter Hurdles
Emily Harrington equaled her school record time from earlier in the day during the pentathlon running 9.44 seconds to finish fifth and score four points. Stevens freshman Laura Mathews won gold with a time of 9.02 seconds while Messiah junior Kathryn Wiederrecht was second in 9.22 seconds. Eastern senior Nicole Weenink ran 9.24 seconds to finish third. Emily Harrington qualified for Saturday's final with a school record time of 9.45 seconds while finishing second in the fourth and final preliminary heat. 

4x200 Meter Relay
The Monarch foursome of Sarah Ross, Kailey Orzechowski, Angelina Broga and Emily Harrington had a strong race, finishing fifth overall with a time of 1:51.00 for a new school record, breaking the mark of 1:52.85 set last season at the MAC Championships. Messiah won the 4x200 meter relay with a time of 1:46.81, while Eastern and Widener were 2-3 in the race. 

4x400 Meter Relay
King's posted another fifth-place finish in the 4x400 relay, as Ross, Broga, Albright and Orzechowski ran a time of 4:23.36. Messiah's foursome earned the victory with a 4:04.99, and Eastern and Misericordia came in behind them for second and third place. 
 
Triple Jump
Gabriella Conforti finished fourth out of 21 jumpers scoring five points with a school record 10.92 meters (35'10") on her third attempt. The freshman beat her previous best jump of 10.75 meters (35'3.25") that she achieved at Cornell last month. Conforti fouled on her first, fourth, and sixth jumps but hit marks of 10.52 meters and 10.77 meters. Kristine Krumpfer finished the day with a mark of 9.66 meters (31'8.5") on her first attempt. The freshman hit 9.33 meters on her second jump and fouled on her third. Eastern senior Nicole Weenink had a meet record jump of 12.07 meters (39'7.25") on her sixth attempt to take home the gold. Alvernia freshman Amanda Tony was second with a mark of 11.03 meters (36'2.25") on her fifth jump while Misericordia sophomore Tatiana Dorner was third with a jump of 11.00 meters (36'1.25") on her second attempt.

High Jump
Junior Sarah Zultevicz finished 10th out of 18 jumpers Saturday, as she cleared a distance of 1.50 meters. After passing at the preliminary three heights, Zultevicz cleared 1.42, 1.47 and 1.50 on just five combined jumps. At 1.53 though, Zultevicz's run would end as she couldn't get over the bar cleanly. Abigail Sheerer of Widener won the event with a height of 1.62, and Hayley Engle was second with a 1.62 meter height as well. 
 
Shot Put
Danielle Kitchner threw 10.20 meters (33'5.75") on her second attempt to finish 15th out of 30 throwers. The sophomore started with a toss of 10.19 meters before finishing with a throw of 10.07 meters. Widener sophomore Anna Cooney won the gold medal with a mark of 12.78 meters (41'11.25") on her fifth toss. Misericordia sophomore Brenna Karnish was second with a mark of 12.56 meters (41'2.50") on her fifth attempt while Stevenson senior Danika Ani was third with a throw of 12.43 meters (40'9.5") on her second attempt.
 
Pentathlon
Emily Harrington earned third in the pentathlon with a total of 2,774 points, edging Caitlin Henneforth for third place by 14 points. Harrington started the day with a school record time of 9.44 seconds in the 60 meter hurdles to score 820 points. The junior had the fastest time in the field of 12 while besting her own previous record of 9.45 seconds that she ran yesterday in the prelims of 60 hurdles. Messiah senior Taylor Wiederrecht had the second fastest time in the field at 9.47 seconds scoring 814 points. In the second event, the high jump, Harrington scored 544 points with a season best height of 1.43 meters (4'8.25"). Harrington entered at 1.22 meters needing two attempts to reach that height before nailing her first attempts at 1.25 meters, 1.28 meters, 1.31 meters, and 1.34 meters. She needed two tries at 1.37 meters but hit her first attempt at 1.40 meters and 1.43 meters before missing all three tries at 1.46 meters. Misericordia junior Caitlin Henneforth had the top height in the field at 1.58 meters (5'2.25").
 
The junior scored 456 points in the shot put with a huge career best of 8.87 meters (29'1.25") on her first of three attempts. Harrington threw 7.78 meters and 8.78 meters on her other two tosses. Eastern sophomore Joelle Wash had the best mark of the field at 10.60 meters (34'9.5") on her second attempt.

In the long jump, Harrington picked up 418 points with a distance of 4.46 meters, while was sixth in the event but she earned enough points to stay in third place going into the final event. Susanna Pirollo of Alvernia won the long jump with a 4.78m jump, while Camryn Castellini was second after posting a distance of 4.61 meters. 

The final event was the 800 meter run, and Harrington earned 536 points with a time of 2:43.28 to finish with the fifth-fastest time of the 11 competitors. Pirollo was first with a 2:35.10 to take second place overall, while Wiederrecht of Messiah won the overall title with 2,955 points, just seven points clear of Pirollo.
