MADISON, NJ (October 1, 2021) – The defending Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom Champion FDU-Florham field hockey team scored three goals in the first quarter and two in the third to defeat King's College 5-0 on Friday evening from Robert T. Shields Field in Madison, NJ.
The Devils (7-3, 2-0 MAC Freedom) scored three goals in a span of less than two minutes in the first to build a three-goal lead. They got on the board 9:39 into the game as Ashley Moskal tallied her third goal of the year from the top of the crease off a penalty corner. She then doubled the FDU-Florham lead 25 seconds later with another goal from the top of the crease on a penalty corner. A little over a minute later Kendall Moore scored her second goal of the season as she knocked in a rebound.
In the third quarter the Devils would find the back off the cage again off a penalty corner as Lauren Nawrotzki redirected a feed from Moskal for her first of the season. In the 43rd minute Nowrotzki scored again with another redirected shot from Moskal off a penalty corner. Four of the Devils five goals in the game were scored off penalty corners.
The Monarchs struggled to get shots off against a very stout FDU-Florham defense. King's was able to get the ball downfield and into the semicircle but once they were inside, the Devil defense locked down and knocked the ball away. The Devils outshot the Monarchs 20-3 including 14-1 in shots on goal.
King's had a great chance in the last couple minutes of the game as
Emma Clark fired a shot on goal from the top of the circle that was kicked away by the Devil keeper. The Monarchs were able to grab the rebound and get the ball to
Ali Tedik for a second attempt at the goal but her attempt just sailed wide.
Ellie Glatz made eight saves in goal for the Monarchs.
King's will have a week off to prepare for their next game which is at Arcadia University next Saturday at 12:00 pm.
