King’s Field Hockey Falls At Arcadia

GLENSIDE, PA (October 9, 2021) -- The King's College field hockey team fell to host Arcadia University 5-0 on Saturday afternoon in a Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom (MAC Freedom) contest at Jean Lenox West Field in Glenside.

The Knights (5-8, 2-1 MAC Freedom) scored in each quarter while outshooting the Monarchs (3-7, 0-3 MAC Freedom).

Morganne Dee scored the first three goals of the game for Arcadia scoring in the first, second, and third quarters. She put the Knights ahead early in the second minute with a goal on the first shot of the game off an assist by Mickie March. The Monarchs fought hard to even the score and were able to earn penalty corners in the seventh and 13th minutes. Both corners were stopped by the AU defense without a shot taken.

The Knights offense put a lot of pressure on the King's defense in the second quarter. Ellie Glatz made a pair of nice saves on back-to-back plays early in the quarter to keep the advantage at one. Dee gave the Knights a 2-0 lead off an assist from Ashlyn Barton in the 23rd minute. Arcadia kept the offensive pressure up following the goal as Glatz was forced to knock away another shot before Abby Achenbach made a great defensive save on a shot by Dee in the 26th minute. The Monarchs closed out the half with Abby Wolfe stepping up and making a huge defensive save on a shot by Dee.

The Monarchs came out strong to start the second half earning a corner a couple minutes in. Bailey Jordan had her shot blocked after she inserted the corner. King's earned back-to-back corners in the 38th minute and on the second one Danielle Runo nearly cut the lead in half but her shot was sent away by Gracie Fenner. Arcadia responded right back to the King's attack and increased the lead to 3-0 off Dee's third goal of the game in the 40th minute. Dee scored after Samantha Jacona had shots hit the crossbar and post. The Knights added two goals in the first five minutes of the fourth quarter to set the final score. Kayla Serafin scored in the 48th minute off an assist by Dee and then Caeley Letersky found the back of the cage late in the 50th minute of an assist by March.

Glatz finished the game with seven saves while Achenbach and Wolfe recorded a defensive save each.

King's will now turn their attention to a three-game homestand starting next Friday night when Delaware Valley University visits McCarthy Stadium for an important MAC Freedom contest beginning at 7 pm.
