Macher, Sankey Lead Women's Soccer to Conference Win at Delaware Valley

DOYLESTOWN, PA (October 16, 2021) --- The King's College women's soccer team earned their first Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom (MAC Freedom) victory of the season as they defeated Delaware Valley University, 2-1, on Saturday afternoon. The Monarchs now improve to 3-6-1 overall and 1-2-1 in MAC Freedom action.

KC conceded the first goal of the match in the 30th minute when Sydney Dispoto beat out King's goalkeeper, Tara Bender, to give the Aggies a 1-0 lead. The Monarchs knew they needed to answer quickly, and did just that in the 39th minute as Alyssa Macher scored the first goal of her career off an assist from Kasey Danko. Danko knocked a ball into the box towards the goal and Macher made perfect contact to send the ball into the back of the net. The goal brought the match to a stalemate going into the break.

King's came into the second half as the aggressors, and it paid off as Leah Sankey provided the eventual game winner for the Monarchs in the 60th minute. Sankey turned past an Aggie defender and ripped a shot over the keepers outstretched hand. The goal marked her fifth of the season, which leads King's.

As a team, the Monarchs outshot Delaware Valley 15-3 in the contest, including 10-3 on goal. KC also held an advantage in cornerkicks, 6-2.

Macher led the King's offense with four shots, while Mikaela Majcher added three. Bender made two saves in net for the Monarchs.

The squad will return to action on Wednesday night when they travel to cross-town rivals Wilkes University for a 7:00 pm MAC Freedom duel at Bruggeworth field.
