WILLIAMSPORT, PA (October 26, 2021) --- The King's College women's soccer team were defeated 2-0 on Tuesday evening by MAC Freedom opponent Lycoming College.
The Warriors of Lycoming College created two early chances in the first five minutes, but King's goalkeeper
Tara Bender stood up to the test and saved both shots. The Monarchs saw their first opportunity of the match in the 12th minute when
Madelyn Reuter fired a shot towards the net, but missed wide right.Â
Both sides continued to battle throughout the first half to find the opening goal, but were unable to break the stalemate as the contest remained all square at 0-0 going into halftime.
Lycoming got on the board early in the second half, as they scored just five minutes in on a goal from Bridget Maaloum. The Warriors made it 2-0 in the 74th minute when Jayden Leighow found the back of the net.Â
The Monarchs looked for a late second half goal to help create some momentum and nearly had it when
Kanisha Cheshire got a shot off after a corner kick, but her effort was saved by Lycoming goalie Jess Riordan.
Leah Sankey created a late chance at goal for King's in the 90th minute but Riordan made the stop again for the Warriors.
Lycoming held a 12-9 shot advantage in the game, while KC led in cornerkicks 3-2. Bender finished with seven saves for the Monarchs, while Sankey led the offense with two shots, both on goal.Â
King's will return home on Saturday to host Misericordia University for their last regular season match of the season. Kickoff is set for 1:00 pm at McCarthy Stadium.Â
