Game Recap: Men's Ice Hockey |

Multi-Point Night By Cooper and Frenkel Not Enough For Men’s Ice Hockey Against Arcadia

PITTSTON, PA (November 19, 2021) – Jack Cooper and Aaron Frenkel each had multi-point games on Friday night, but the King's College men's ice hockey team fell to visiting Arcadia University 4-3 in a United Collegiate Hockey Conference and Middle Atlantic Conference battle from Revolution Ice Centre in Pittston.

The Knights got on the board just 40 seconds into the game as Mike Kocsis snuck a shot into the back of the net for his first of the season. King's responded with a beautiful goal at 8:06 where the Monarchs turned defense into offense in a matter of seconds. Mahingan Decontie began with the puck behind the Monarch goal following a turnover. He passed the puck to Jackson Grozelle along the boards who sent the puck off the boards up ice to Aaron Frenkel. Frenkel beat a defender before sending a cross-ice pass to Casey Gerstein. Gerstein went top shelf for his first goal of his career to tie things up.

The Monarchs took the lead eight minutes later as Jack Cooper scored on a power-play goal for his team-leading sixth goal of the year. Frenkel and Lee assisted on the goal. Frenkel nearly scored just seconds before Cooper did sending a shot that hit off the pipe and right to Cooper. James Spaargaren tied the game up at two with 20 seconds left in the period on his third goal of the year.

Arcadia took the lead 8:34 into the second period as Kocsis tallied his second of the game. The Knights made it a two-goal advantage 6:42 into the third period with Donnie Feldman finding the back of the net for his first of the season. The Monarchs fought back strong and made it a one-goal game with 1:12 remaining. The Monarchs pulled their goalie for an extra attacker on the power-play opportunity. Cooper and Frenkel assisted on Michael DiSchiavi's second goal of the season and sixth of his career. King's continued with the pressure on the Knights in the final minute but shots by Cooper and Frenkel were saved.

Cooper continued his amazing start to the season with one goal and one assist extending his record of five straight games with a point and four straight games with at least one goal and one assist. Frenkel recorded three assists and now has six assists on the season. Lee had one assist to give him five on the year. The Monarchs took 35 shots, which is the second-most in program history, and outshot the Knights 35-27. Cooper led the way with nine while Frenkel and Ian Zaleski had four each. Cooper was also excellent on faceoffs winning a team-best 15 of his 20 attempts. Brandon Daigle made 15 saves before being replaced in the second period by Tyler Sayger. Syager finished off the game making eight saves.

The Monarchs will look to rebound from the tough loss tomorrow night when they host Lebanon Valley College at 7 pm in another UCHC/MAC contest at Revolution Ice Centre in Pittston.
