King Scores First Career Goal Against Chatham

PITTSTON, PA (November 21, 2021) -- Senior assistant captain Erin King scored her first career goal for the King's College women's ice hockey team in the third period of a 7-1 loss to visiting Chatham University on Sunday afternoon at Revolution Ice Centre in Pittston.

King, who normally plays defense for the Monarchs, was moved onto the offensive line for the game and scored her goal on a breakaway in the third period with the Monarchs on the power play. Classmate Meghan Mietlicki started the play behind the Monarch goal. She passed the puck up the right side to Emma Dos Santos. Dos Santos relayed the puck up ice to a streaking King who beat a defender and then just had the goalie to beat. King went top shelf to just inside the right post as the puck knocked off the bottom of the pipe and into the netting.

Chatham scored three times in the first period to build a 3-0 lead. Cameron Carmody had the first two goals of the game at 5:09 and 16:35 before Ally Nolan found the back of the net at 19:26. The Cougars added a short-handed goal in the second period with Abi Fuzaylov recording her third goal of the year at 12:34.

The Monarchs cut the lead down to 4-1 at 4:05 of the third period on the goal by King. Chatham responded with the final three goals of the game to set the final score. Cameron Carmody finished her hat trick at 5:23 with a power-play goal before Kaylynn Savoy had a pair of goals at 7:44 and 11:35. Her first goal was also a power-play goal for the Cougars.

Josée Aitken led the Monarchs with three shots and won a team-high 12 faceoffs on 26 attempts. Jordan Dittmar also had a lot of faceoff wins earning 11 on 27 attempts. The Monarchs blocked 25 shots in the game with Audrey Martin and Sam Kulman leading the way with four each. Ani Quindipan blocked three shots while Perri Cronk, King, Mietlicki, and Dittmar had two each. Syd Dahl made 48 saves in goal and Hannah Bowers made 16 saves.

The Monarchs will be off for the Thanksgiving break before closing out the first semester with their first Middle Atlantic Conference series of the year against Lebanon Valley. King's will host LVC on December 3 and 4.
