WILKES BARRE, PA (December 22, 2021) ---
Kade Kravits continued his stellar week on the mats for the Monarchs, as the senior turned in a first-place finish in the 174 pound weight class at the Wilkes Invitational on Wednesday.
Kravits began his day against Frederick Greene of Ursinus College where he controlled the match and earned a 16-1 tech fall. He then dominated Adam Myers of Ohio Northern University, posting a first period pin to advance to the semifinals. In his semifinal match, Kravits defeated Connor Kwiat of Ohio Northern by a 5-2 decision. The senior then faced Chris Nuss of host Wilkes University in the 174 championship match where he earned another 5-2 decision victory. The win marked the first individual title of Kravits's wrestling career and the first tournament champion of the season for King's.
First-year Monarch
Nick Germano showed off his skills once more, earning a fourth place finish at 133. After receiving a bye and advancing to the quarterfinals, he earned a convincing 15-4 major decision win over Billy Moore of Muhlenberg. Germano fell to Bryce Cockrell of Division I Long Island University in the semifinals, then bounced back in the consolation semifinals by edging out Chris Dalmau of Muhlenberg in 5-3 decision. He dropped the third-place match to Dylan Le of Ohio Northern to finish out the day.
Billy Grace had a strong day for KC, going 4-2 in the invitational and taking fifth place at 184. The junior won his opening match over Liam Buday of Muhlenberg in an 8-2 decision. After falling in his second bout, Grace responded with an 8-1 decision victory over Zach Dabney of Ohio Northern. Grace would make it all the way to the fifth-place match, where he took home the win over Thomas Domerese of Shenandoah University in a 10-0 decision.
At 197, first-year
Richard Fronheiser also earned a fifth-place finish for King's. After dropping his first match of the day, Fronheiser showed his determination and earned a second period pin on Derek Liddle of Shenandoah. In the following match, Fronheiser battled for a closely contested 6-5 decision win over Karl Osmond-Bouyer of LIU. He would make it to the fifth place match where his opponent was forced to withdraw from the tournament due to an injury.
The Monarchs also received solid performances from
Bret Murphy and
Isaac Mensah who went 3-2, and 2-2 respectively. As a team, King's finished fifth out of eight teams.
The Monarchs will return to action after the holiday breaks when they travel to Grantham, PA for the MAC Championships hosted by Messiah University on Saturday, January 15th.
